On TV a while ago I saw a show that was showing advanced weapons and how they worked. The gun they showed at the end was this big box that had about 100 (maybe alot more) barrels that could rip anything to shreds with one blast of machine gun mayhem. Does anyone know the gun i'm talking about?

How much ammo can you put on this thing? 1 million rounds per minute... it probably runs out of ammo after half a millisecond.

The weapon above just gave a whole new meaning to "Spray and Pray"

Hell, Why would we want a weapon like that?
Raining ton of bullets at enemy force?

Wouldn't a missile do a better job? It may have high rate of fire, but, where can it be placed? Moreover, where can its ammo be placed?

I'm really no gun expert, but how would they keep that thing from melting? Wouldn't it have to do really short bursts?

The gun was origonally made by an Australian in his garage. Each tube is fitted with electrical contacts along the tube which detonate the bullet cartigdes. it can be programmed to fire bursts of 1 round up to a million. each tube the bullets lay one behind the other.

there was a programme called tomorrows world on UK TV years ago and the prototype was on there.

The weapon isn't for use against troops or vehicles, it's strictly anti-ordinance.

It's basically is designed to throw up a wall of lead or tungsten in the flight path of mortars and missles.

Using metalstorm against soft targets would be the very definition of overkill.

No moving parts, that's why it can fire so fast. And reloading is like a brown bess musket, muzzle first, so it's strictly a vehicle-mounted weapon.

Still, a couple of them on a Cessna would make your C130 Spectre (or is that Spooky) look like a pregnan whale. So what would they be like on a fast(ish) jet?
It might be a bit scary if you call in CAS and they're packing Metalstorm and you're not 100% confident in the pilots!
