I have heard a rumor that there is a huge base controlled by the UN or possibly the FEMA underneath the mountain in the Black Mountain, NC area near Asheville.
Supposedly a train long enough to block three crossings gets stopped due to a traffic accident, and the equipment on flatcars is all marked with UN markings.
Has anyone seen or heard anything about this subject?

I live very close to Black Mountain, have heard that myself but if there is it is very obscured. There are some Federal Agencies seated in Black Mountain, but I don't know what all is out there, I'll have to look through my phone book.
Now there was a freak incident here with the National Security Agency I think it was in Transylvania County, but apparently one day somer representative from the NSA showed up at the County Seat there and told them that they were abandoning their facilities there and were giving them tot he county. The county and everybody around here basicly jaw dropped and said, "What Facilities!?"
When they went there to have a look, there was a HUGE underground network of rooms and offices with miles of tunnels, and oddly enough they said miles and miles of fiber optic cable and some generators, had been there for years and nobody in the county or local communtiy ever had a clue it was there. I'll see if I can't dig that up for you, it was big news here.
Some interesting stuff going on here in the hills.

Also, if you go to Grandfather Mtn you will see signs about that area being an ecosystem belonging to the UN !
I have read somewhere that the watershed there was signed over to the UN.
Also , I have heard there are troops on the ground in the US from various nations, and that they are stopping people and writing tickets for various things. Of course, this is another rumor unsubstantiated.

Last time I was at Grandfather Mountain (last year) I think I saw those signs. I think it's more along the lines of a "UN" or "World" heritage site rather than belonging in any way to the UN.

Thanks,
I'll take a drive over there this week and look again, it's been a while since I noticed them. Maybe I can take some digital pictures of it.

makes one wonder how many 'secret' underground bases there are...here is a site that has a big list.
from th un world heritage site convention

Each State Party to this Convention recognizes that the duty of ensuring the identification, protection, conservation, presentation and transmission to future generations of the cultural and natural heritage referred to in Articles 1 and 2 and situated on its territory, belongs primarily to that State. It will do all it can to this end, to the utmost of its own resources and, where appropriate, with any international assistance and co-operation, in particular, financial, artistic, scientific and technical, which it may be able to obtain.

what do they mean by 'belongs PRIMARILY to that member state'?? that wouls seem to indicate that somebody else should/will have a say about that land.
also

Whilst fully respecting the sovereignty of the States on whose territory the cultural and natural heritage mentioned in Articles 1 and 2 is situated, and without prejudice to property right provided by national legislation, the States Parties to this Convention recognize that such heritage constitutes a world heritage for whose protection it is the duty of the international community as a whole to co-operate.

'the duty of the international community as a whole to co-operate'....hmm

world heritage site convention

of course i have to add this

I have been trying to track down these rumors for 2 years and I keep coming up empty handed.

Would like to work with others on tracking this down.

Most of what I have heard is a base under brown mountain......

If you have ever heard the legend of the 'Brown Mountain Lights' , you would probably have more ammunition for that.
Noone has been able to identify the cause for them, and they have had some of the finest minds in science looking into it.

Interesting, I have never heard anything of an underground UN base here, but then again I have never looked.

Check this link out:

It doesn't go into great detail unfortunately. I myself lived close to Brown Mountain and have seen the lights on several occasions. The greatest sight I ever saw in NC was at Shortoff Mountain though. See my "Orbs in North Carolina" post.

I've seen the brown mountain lights as well, and is without a doubt the wierdest thing I have ever seen (that everyone else could see too that is
) but the thread is asking about Black Mountain which is another area. I know of no military installations around Brown Mountain. I can tell you that I worked with a Paranormal Research Group here in Western NC and we met with the Country Board of Tourism about doing some investigations there with the support of the County, after that meeting we went to the overlook and we were followed and watched very closely by law enforcement until we left late that night. You wouldn't believe some of the local stories surrounding the lights, pretty wild some of them, but the lights have been seen there long before European Settlers came into the picture so even if there is a government facility near Brown Mountain, it has nothing to do with the Lights themselves.

There is a construction project going on at Black Mountain right now... I may have more details in the coming months.

If you see this and want to reply with a flame or something, please don't bother. All I know right now is that there is new construction occuring. I never claimed to know more than that, but perhaps I will soon.

I am curious to understand why so many folks around here are amazed at subterranian constructions. Equating them with the sinister is unfounded in most cases. During WW 2 there were many things constructed under ground for protection and to easily limit access.

Things were and still are put under ground just as normal multi-story buildings function- economical use of space.

After the war this simple logic continued for safety from nuclear attack. We must realize that the myriad aspects of the modern military entity requires many facets to function in time of disaster. Nothing is easier to create for strength and safety than a subterranean facility.

While there are restricted access facilities even for rank and file military personnel there are certainly no more underground than above. Every grunt and Army supply clerk didn't automatically deserve access to ICMB missile silos then or any sensitive facilities that exist now. Just cause it's underground doesn't automatically make it "alien" connected.

Are you referring to NSA's site in near Rosman, NC, in Pisgah National Forest? It shutdown in '95. I'm sure some locals knew it was there, as some would've worked there in support functions. They just didn't say anything.

Now it's the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute.

The new construction project is a Data Center...
That's all I have for now.

I'm not AMAZED at this.. I'm not claiming it's a secret government installation where they test alien death rays on humans.. I'm just passing on the bit of information I have, since I know some people will be interested.

a reply to: Britguy

i recently spoke with someone about hiking on grandfather mountain they parked thier car in a parking area and started down a trail and saw a sign but the side facing them had nothing writen on it so they kept going and were met by what they claimed to be un peacekeeping forces of various nationalities armed with M-16 rifles and escorted back to their car in the parking area and given citations for being in a restricted area. they told me on the way back to their car the other side of the sign was clearly marked U.N. in large bold letters i plan on going hiking this summer and i think im gonna go check this out to see if its really true as its not that far a drive from where i live

This WAS a secret base belonging to the NSA pre-Coldwar in Rosman, NC, south-west of Asheville. But post-Coldwar it was to be shut down, until it was taken up by PARI and turned into an astronomy research site. There are 5 miles of tunnels beneath it, and it was heavily guarded previously. There is a more in-depth article here: mountainx.com... the article discusses how next-door neighbors were not allowed on the base, folks who worked there could not even use them as a job reference due to the secrecy, etc.
