Wow!

Not sure what kind of filter if any he used, but he got a great shot!

He was directly in the path of totality.

That's an impressive picture!
What camera is he using, and did he do any post editing?

I'm thinking that one might be a money maker. It's that good. Stellar.

What a great pic he got - you should get it blown up to a larger size & framed and give it to him for his birthday!

Amazing! I'm also in the path of totality and it was pretty crazy! I didn't realize how long it lasts.

I don't know the answer to either.

I'll ask him and report back.

Great idea!

I'm in the 97% totality area.

There were a lot of clouds here in NY but I could still definitely see the eclipse clearly. And it did take a while from beginning to end, a lot longer than I thought it would.

I know hes done some kind of processing-but that is still the best image of the eclipse I have seen-bettr than the live camera Nasa was using.
I bet there is loads of useful science data in the image too.

Probably just the viewpoint from earth having some kind of optical effect-but sme of those rays seem to pop off at almost right angles which seems weird.

I've long made peace with the fact I will never own a camera capable of such magic. Best left to those who pay their college debt one Pulitzer at a time.

He's always been very lucky for some reason ever since he was a young kid.

I'd never even see something like that, let alone be able to take a picture of it.

I should get him to pick my lottery numbers for me.

Are you sure that's not a composite image? There is some duplication in the rays, suggesting that they are not natural, and I doubt there's a camera that could capture that amount of detail on the moon during totality, without the corona being completely washed out, without some serious post editing.
It's still an amazing picture, but I think it's more of an art work than a photograph.

Awesome AI generated fake picture. You would not see the moons features on the side facing away from the sun like that in a real photo

I talked to my son tonight. It turns out he didn't take that picture, he just sent it to me to let me know what he saw in NH as he didn't take any pictures of his own during the eclipse. I'm not sure where he got the image, I didn't ask him.

He just texted me the image this afternoon and said in the text - "Hey Dad did you see the eclipse?" I just assumed he took the picture.

My bad. Sorry about that.

No 'bad' at all. Refreshing to see someone cheerfully clarify something.

Cheers
