Illegal New York synagogue tunnel leads to 9 arrests

I don't know much about Mikvahs IndieA, my limited understanding being they are for the purpose of the ritual immersion.

I just wish to know why in this day of age a synagogue requires escape tunnels or hidden access routes.

Its a trippy one really to ponder.

I can appreciate ritual immersion and I posted a video about mikvahs on the previous page if you are interested.

Could that not be down to the likes of structural/building subsidence concerns as opposed to being an attempted coverup anything nefarious?

I still wish to know why the tunnel was there through and for what purpose all the same.

Considering the rise of violent anti-semitism in this country and Jewish history with Nazis in Germany ... escape tunnels could be something they felt the need to build.

Seriously though. The ones that built it are extremists who follow a recently dead guy who they think was the Messiah. So their thought process is likely skewed. People who follow fake messiahs and cult leaders aren't thinking straight. They get paranoid. Could be that. Who knows. We'll probably find out more in coming weeks as arrests are made and interrogations are done.

If that's the case then winner winner chicken dinner.

Paranoid can indeed make people do crazy things, combined with religious extremists, and 9 times out of 10 spells a recipe for disaster.

They had no such concerns until the tunnel was discovered, so no. The police were called in after a scuffle broke out between those wanting to fill it in and those that wanted it investigated.

I would think that the effected building's support integrity should be inspected by an engineer, or team of engineers, before just filling in the tunnel with concrete. There may be structural reinforcement that is needed to prevent future problems.

I would hold the tunnelers financially accountable for any damages and needed repairs.

Why would they?
These tunnels are in the USA and not Israel - it has # all to do with IDF.

And as far as I can tell these tunnels weren't being used for terrorist activities.....unless you know different?

This is in NYC, not Gaza.
There are no IDF involved.
