Major Incident Declared In South Wales As Roads Closed Around Industrial Estate After 'explosion'

South Wales Police said roads around Severn Road in Treforest are expected to remain closed for some time due to the "serious incident".

Local councilor Karl Johnson told Sky News he believes the incident happened at Mindset Functional Fitness Ltd, with the front of the building "completely destroyed" and a nearby car dealership also potentially affected.

More than 15 police cars and 10 ambulances have been deployed to the scene, with support from the fire service, Mr Johnson said.

And it looks like something is burning strong.

Hopefully nothing too toxic or nasty given its an industrial estate.

First thoughts... EV? Going by the statement saying the front of the building, so cancells out gas explosion within it?

Whatever it is it seems to have spread to the cars or dealership.

The front of a leisure center seems to have faired rather poorly.

This time of night i hope it was relatively empty.

All those ambulances don't bode well.

Suppose they could just be being prudent all the same.

I did a quick search of the busib=nesses on that industrial estate. Seems to be more than one car company. I was looking for a business that would use welding equipment, but didn't see any.

After reading other news articles about this, it was first thought it was a major incident after massive explosion but was later stood down.

Angelchemuel said about a possible EV. From the discription could it possbly be mutiple EV batteries exploding?

By the looks of things whatever caused the initial explosion seems to have spread to some other vehicles.

I don't know to be honest what was the main cause of the fire.

It could indeed have been an EV that exploded.

RIP to the poor sod.

By the looks of things they have been really lucky, nobody else was seriously injured or killed.

Still can't find anything saying what the cause of te explosion was. Anyone found/heard anything?

The force added that it was working with the fire service and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to establish the cause of the explosion.

Seem to be taking their time about it though. Very strange or very suspicious!
Fire Service normally get to the cause pretty dam quick with 'preliminary investigation'.
Like everybody else, I'll be interested in reading their findings of the cause. Hope it doesn't 'disappear' from the news.

Indeed, if the cause was cut and dried, why the wait. Will hopefully give some solace to Her Family.
