President Biden is nearing the point where a decision MUST BE MADE. To Debate? Or not to Debate? Because...

Mr Biden, 80, formally announced his 2024 re-election bid in April, telling voters the country is in a pivotal moment and he needs more time to "finish this job".

The Democratic Party faithful, including elected leaders and top donors, are backing him up - but many voters still need convincing he is the best candidate the party has.

Significant numbers of Democrats have called for other options, expressing concern over Mr Biden's age, mental acuity and a series of challenges ahead, both domestic and global.

The president's approval ratings have also declined to the lowest of his tenure, in overall terms and among Democrats.

But with the party unlikely to schedule any debates ahead of the primary election, he is not expected to face a serious contest.

So who is challenging Mr Biden?

ALSO: Democratic Senator JOE MANCHIN is inching closer to throwing his hat in the ring.

WASHINGTON — Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., inched closer Wednesday to confirming that he could run for president.

"I will do anything I can to help my country, and you're saying, 'Does that mean you would consider it?' Absolutely," Manchin said in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" moderator Kristen Welker.

"Every American should consider it if they're in a position to help save the country," he added.

Manchin said he first has to explore whether there's an appetite among voters for a moderate candidate like him.

President Biden and people at the top of his administration are constantly bragging about how they have "BUILT AMERICA BACK BETTER" than it was.

Mr. Biden should take the numerous achievements that fall under his "Built Back Better" umbrella, and tout them in a nationally televised debate of Democrat and Independent candidates who have the guts to challenge him face-to-face, and offer better ideas.

IN YOUR OPINION - Is Pretending that he has NO challengers to his Presidency but a few Republicans, the RIGHT or the WRONG strategy for President Biden to take?

Off topic. This thread is about Biden. If you want to talk about Trump, create a thread or contribute to the Trump threads.

Biden is the incumbent. When was the last time an incumbent president debated a same party challenger?

Trump, when he was the incumbent, in 2020, didn't debate any challengers either. Neither did Obama, or Bush, or Clinton, or Bush, or Carter, or Reagan.

Just like last election! Gotta hide Joe from the public or he will do what he does best, screw it up. It would be great to see him fumble on stage for the hundredth time! How many people would have still voted for him if they got to see him bumbling in 2020 debates?

Who would he debate? Even on the GOP side you need at least 3 or 4% to even qualify for debates. Maryanne Williams is not at that as far as I know, nor does she have the donations; and Dean Philips just joined the race and is not even polling yet. Neither would even qualify for debates.

One man debate?

The only thing Biden is fit to debate is a jar of mayonnaise.

Even then, the Vegas odds would likely favor the mayo.

What could Joe Biden tell anyone in a debate? That his only real accomplishment was helping the makers of Depends stay in business?

2016 - Stole the Nomination From Bernie
2020 - Remember when Bloomberg was the Golden Boy?
2024 - Biden Until 2 weeks before DNC Convention. Someone will be appointed.

It is so corrupt it is ridiculous. To hear anyone say they are GOP and want Haley is also a joke. She is a McCain/Romney/Dole replacement. The GOP candidate who loses. Pence was supposed to lose to HRC in 2016.

There is no way that Joe BIden could survive a debate he can barely do a scripted 20 minute town hall.

Thankyou for providing a detailed informative answer. So Biden would only HURT himself by debating any of the challengers? That makes sense if he's in a strong position.

But has there been a President whom 70% of his own party didn't want him to run for a second term?

It's possible Biden has nothing to lose, but possibly something to gain, by debating relatively soon.

Fetterman was dumber than the podium he stood behind, but still won the debate against Dr. Oz, and got elected PA Senator.

You can tell the difference between not wanting to bother because you're so ahead in the polls, and hiding in a basement because your poll numbers are an embarrassment huh?

Does he have to no of course not, but considering the questions being floated he should.

If he cant handle the soft ball questions in a debate, no way he should be sitting in the oval office.

Biden done well in buying off the people that count the votes. How is that bank account looking? With what is at stake is the national budget it can have some good returns, as long as the economy is still functional. Biden not having any debates is to be expected, his handlers would be stressing over that one.

Seems like Presidential debates are now going to be a thing of the past. Neither leading Dem or Republican seems to want to do it.

So be it.

The most recent Dem primary polls have Biden polling over 70%. The most recent GOP polls has Trump polling around 50%.

Last time I checked 70% is greater than 50% but for some reason the narrative is that Biden is polling terribly in his primary while Trump has a commanding lead in his primary.

Biden not going to run in the fall. He's old, he's senile, and he knows it. What he plans to do is sow up the nomination and just before the convention announce he's going to retire. That way the powers that be in the "democrat" party can then put up their handpicked candidate and not worry about a psycho from the rank and file coming out of nowhere and winning the nomination.

And with a bit of luck the '24 candidate won't be tarred with all the Biden failures over the past 4 years along with what Biidenomics did to the economy.

So who's the favorite if this happens? I'm guessing Gavin Newsom.

BUT. Most of the polls also show Trump beating Biden and winning the presidency too. And it's worse if it's another republican or even the generic republican choice.

Like I said before. The Democrats are trying a bait and switch strategy. Biden to the convention and then swapped for someone with a chance to beat Trump.
