It is like a Homeowners association. They are put in place in valuable areas and assist in keeping those areas to rules meant to serve the community. (they help keep the value)

Sometimes there are HOA that pick at small things. Some moderators have done the same here over the years.

So shall we throw out the HOA so we can all park on out lawns, do Engine swaps on our driveways, and pile garbage on the sidewalk?
33 years ago, they disbanded my HOA. I said I don't care. Then the pool around the block from me was shut down, filled with dirt, sold for replacement with a private home or two. some of the 10 renters in the general area now park on lawns, yards are blighted, semis parked in residential areas on the street in front of other people's homes But at least they are free from HOA mods...... Good trade off?

Point 1: Pastor Josiah and his army of bot suckpuppets. All it takes is one bad actor to wreak havoc with sockpuppets and spam. If the mods weren't here, people like him could have this site. Scammer spambots are all over the YouTube comment section and all over Facebook, and they more mods and have MUCH stricter T&Cs than we do. They even have creeper bots that scan for language and auto delete stuff, and STILL, scambots make it through, and if they get blocked, they automatically make another account and get right back to it.

Point 2. In the Dark Knight, Joker had to rig both barges so the people would blow each other up no matter what they did,
and he had to corrupt Harvey Dent because without playing dirty, he couldn't make it look like people were bad deep down. Even if you were right about people at large, that the trolls represent what humans are, you are still not right about US; the ones who wanted the mods back, because we both self regulated and wanted objective moderation,

If we're talking OG's I'll give credit where it's due, but I'm more of an Eartha Kitt guy myself. I liked the way she talked, and I think it heavily influenced Michelle Pfeiffer's portrayal, which is my personal favorite of them all.
Dated a girl who looked like Michelle Pfeiffer, and I think Tim Burton was mostly to blame for that TBH.
Plus, the shredded, patchy vinyl... yum.

If I were an owner I would try my best to follow the law.

I think if the content became too obscene, one could get users to sign a waiver saying they are passed the age of consent.

And then, moderation would be monitoring the site if there is criminal activity.
