Why Do So Few Citizens of Israel Own Guns - Considering Israel Has So Many Enemies.

It surprised me when I heard that HAMAS terrorists were flying one-man contraptions into Israel without being shot down by people in the neighborhood, and going door-to-door killing and raping without being stopped by the homeowners.

Then I read this today, and understood...

As the world watches the atrocities of the past few days unfold in Israel — including Hamas terrorists going door to door to kill Israelis — it is notable that Israel does not have a U.S.-like Second Amendment and private gun ownership among Israelis is low.

The BBC reported that “Israeli gun ownership is low at about 2% of the population.” In contrast, the findings of a recent study by Rutgers University’s New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center estimated upwards of six in ten Americans own guns.

Considering how many radicals on this planet hate the people of Israel/Jews, why doesn't every one of them keep at least one gun close by, 24/7? In fact, the country should encourage citizens to be well prepared to defend themselves!

If some armed radicals were fly/float/drive/burrow into the USA from Mexico with the intent on killing and taking hostages, it would be a one way trip for them...and the last thing they'll EVER do.

Maybe the people of Israel will nowmake themselves better prepared to thwart the next incursion of armed haters.

That is weird.

I would have thought the Israelis would appreciate the right to self defense as much as anyone.

There's a reason Hitler disarmed the Jewish people.

Israeli citizens are allowed to own a pistol, and 50 bullets,
waiting time for permit typically 6 ro 8 months.

They have reportedly loosened the restriction,
and are now speeding things up.

I'd say let it be a warning, with so many undocumented
"migrants" and border crossings it is not a time to be
left without self defense.

If some armed radicals were fly/float/drive/burrow into the USA from Mexico with the intent on killing and taking hostages, it would be a one way trip for them...and the last thing they'll EVER do.

No need to fly,float,drive and burrow.USA just leaves the door open for them. I’m sure US is loaded with extremists right now just waiting for the signal.

I'm sure the FBI, DOJ, FBI, HS, etc. are well aware of who/where they are and what their future plans are. The question is will they do anything to thwart an internal attack, or will it be allowed to happen in order to remove even more citizens rights.

I'm still in shock over how these men were able to go house-to-house, committing the atrocities they did, with so little lethal resistance.

Pretty sure Israel has a lot of self hating leftist Jews.

And a lot more in the US.

But this is shocking. I always thought they lived armed to the teeth. I always see videos where everybody is walking around with an AR or AK on their shoulder.
But maybe that’s out in the boondocks, in the settlements.
You’d have to be crazy to live there without at least a small armory.
If you’re afraid of or hate guns, don’t live there. You’re just begging to be treated like the people were this weekend.

It warmed my heart when one of the extremists threatened to blow up the food court in an Indiana mall, and before he could finish yelling the Allie Akbar thing, a diner shot him through the forehead....from 50 feet away!

When I first saw the video of one of those clowns buzzing through the air at a snail’s pace, I thought that MF’er is gonna die in seconds.
I can’t believe nobody had any guns to take him out.

Probably because their military is always visible and well armed ot on their streets in much of the country,

Never understood that.

They started as a mostly socialist country, and even with the transition into capitalist they are by far the most liberal society in the Middle East. While that isn’t the hardest thing to be, they are tolerant to gays, tolerant to weed, drinking is legal, and are a mostly free society by global standards.

Other than Bibi’s admin, the only thing I can come up with is it’s viewed as a religious state. I’d say that’s pretty nuanced though given being Jewish is both a religion and an ethnicity. Both aren’t mutually exclusive as I know many agnostic leaning Jews.

I don’t think they’re self hating, I think they’re critical of their people and government, which can often be expressed in a healthy manner.

It would be like calling right leaning Americans self hating whenever the left is in power. Critical would be more fitting as they still believe in America, just a different vision of it.

Jews are very anti-gun in general, in America and abroad. Israelis put all their hopes into their military and the police. And those are very strong and very well armed and trained.

You did sum that up well. As you have said, perhaps
it is the perception of religion many hold, along with
perhaps ancient and historical landmarks.

As for the religious aspects, even most who hold
to Jewish as a religious belief are moderate, some
even liberal.

I'd rather think that being mislabeled right wing
stems from a long history of persecution, and the
modern day perception that nationalism is a bad
and racist thing. Imagine that....

I think you would find the personal gun ownership percentage in Tel Aviv much greater than the supposed 2 percent average. I know many engineers and science people there, and most of those have more than one gun and they are legal.
