This is breaking right now.
It appears that a Mig-23 jet has crashed at the Thunder Over Michigan airshow at Willow Run airport in Ypsilanti, MI.
The 2 crew members ejected and they say the jet came down near an apartment complex.

A spokesperson for the event told Local 4 the MiG-23 aircraft crashed. The pilots in the jet safely ejected and have been found.

A MGI at an airshow? Really? I'm surprised.
We go to the Ocean City Maryland airshow every June.
No migs. Get to see the THunderbirds every year.
It's great fun. Walk the beach boardwalk and watch the planes.
We've been to airshows at McQuire AFB and DOVER AFB too.

I would guess it’s a privately owned Mig but I don’t know that to be absolutely true.

CAN a person privately own a MIG?
I would think they have sensitive equipment on them that Russia wouldn't want let out.

There are quite a few privately owned. Including MiG-29s and Su-27s. Some older ones as well.

There were plans to restore as many as eight to flying condition, including this one. Two were in Texas being restored. This one was returned to flight earlier this year.

Yes it was privately owned, the only one in the world.
Here is a story about him from last year.

"My god, where is that plane going..." was my first thought after they ejected. Luckily it didn't hit a critical area of that apartment complex.

That's why imo, the idea of a bunch of personal "flying cars" zipping about overhead is just asking for it.

Glad the pilots survived.

The worst was one last year or maybe year before. A little jet hit an old b-29 bomber shearing the tail off.... bomber immediately plummets to ground and explodes.

My long deceased father (1993) flew in a 2 seat Mig-15 back around 1986. I think a super rich cat in Texas owned it. I believe he also owned a Mig-21.

That was an awesome little story, and quite funny. Thanks for the link. Too bad he just lost the ONLY privately owned Mig in the world.

Their plan was to restore as many as 8 to flying status. There will be more. A second was being worked on even this one was finished.

I just saw this MIG at EAA in Oshkosh two weeks ago. I think this Mig lost its canopy close to the runway while performing at AirVenture airshow on EAA grounds.

It did. An L-39 lost its canopy as well.

For someone who has a phobia of planes falling onto me, this is just more confirmation that it could happen.
Yet I love planes, went to many airshows here in the UK.

It stemmed from repeated dreams of planes falling right towards me...and then I die in the dream 😵😱
