It really depends on what you define as AI. The current crop has the ability to create new and unique content (from the arts to literature). It's certainly a form of AI. But it's it a threat to humanity? No.

You don't think DNA mapping of people is in the future plans for society? Unlike RFID chips they wouldn't even need our consent-we'd never know it's being done.

It would take a lot of faith and trust in world governments not to see the possibility of it happening, especially since they're already rolling it out in some countries.

Don't worry. It'll die down once CEO'S figure out how AI can do our jobs for free.

My take is AI is an idiot savant being glamorized due to it's recent attention. It will affect society like other dispruptive technologies. Think radio, television, internet.
