Iconic Country Singer Gordon Lightfoot has passed on.

Lightfoot’s death at a Toronto hospital was announced by his longtime publicist Victoria Lord

RIP Gordon...

Loved your songs, as a young teen they seemed
mystical and almost spooky in a way, especially
"The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald".

Also, in tribute to ATS, loved his song
"if You Could Read My Mind"...

(yes its not that kind of reading the mind) haha.

And a gentle reminder that sometimes things that
seem too political will find their way to the top
since they ring the heart of the people.

'It was too political': Gordon Lightfoot on the history behind three of his songs

Sundown, my absolute favorite rifts and licks, but never understood
the lyrics till I realized they fit the D party.

Music these days just doesn't cut it.

Anywho, RIP Godon, and thanks for the tunes!

Bummer man . I’m going to take a trip down the carefree highway and take a trip down on the old Edmund Fitzgerald

They fit the d party ? Not sure what that means , I love sundown . I guess the songs are all the same we listen too but we all hear them in our own different way. I heard the news and was saddened . Justin Trudeau said something and I thought who gives a damn what that soulless person thinks . Bob Dylan said he didn’t think there was a Gordon Lightfoot song that he didn’t like , he said it was like he wanted them to last forever , we lost a legend

Rainy day people always seem to know when it's time to call.
Rainy day people don't talk, they just listen, till they've heard it all.

May he rest in peace.... His music was beautiful and his lyrics worthy of the title poetry.

Think of it in terms of the phrase "dont come creeping my back door"

Carefree Highway, great song.

Loved all of his music, it was unique and unparalleled.

I just found this, can't tell ya how many times I tried
to find the real story behind the song1

Inspiration for “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” came to Lightfoot after he read the Newsweek article “The Cruelest Month.” It was published on Nov. 24, 1975, exactly two weeks after the ill-fated incident. At the time, he was working on a melody that was based on an old Irish folk song.

Bummer.

Not many of 'em left.

I'm dreading the day that I wake up to Kris Kristofferson's demise. For some reason, that's the one I dread, like it'll be a sign of something not good.

"Gitche Gumee"

Otherwise known as Batchewana Bay, a part of Lake Superior.

The Chippewa is a river just before Batchewana.

I used to work with a guy, that whenever he would have to go on sales trips with the salesman, he would put "The wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald on repeat in the vehicle.

One trip was 5 hours, each way. He would not stop playing it.

RIP Mr. Lightfoot.

Whenever we have company and I'm done with them I play The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. It's my GTFO of the house song.
