JUST IN: The US military has shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon after it drifted off the East Coast near the Carolinas, the Pentagon confirms.
President Joe Biden said the mission was a success, and that he ordered the military to shoot it down “as soon as possible” when he was briefed about the balloon Wednesday.

US Shoots Down Chinese Spy Balloon Off East Coast

Seem like the military decided to down the Chinese beast of a balloon.

Wonder what kind of tech they will acquire and if they will be able to work out the purpose of its mission?

The thought did cross my mind.

Might have been waiting for it to cross water all the same so they could shoot it down without any danger to the public or so as not to destroy the thing too much as apparently they are attempting to recover the wreckage.

Edit: Some additional speculation seems to surround them waiting until it was over water so that they could control the debris field down to the size of the thing.

At the 1:10 mark, it states "Video Appears To Show Chinese Spy Balloon being Downed" if that helps.

I honestly don't understand what was happening here. At no point did any of this make any sense whatsoever.

Can someone PLEASE! PLEASE explain what happened here?

Waste of Billions of Tax Payers to shoot down a silly balloon.

First impression is that it is a distraction with all the other China tech around. A couple hundred years ago a balloon like that would provide a good tactical advantage, as for these days, meh?

With the way the media has played it, is it trying to rile up public opinion against China and push for a new war?

Oh, thank God.

I was hooping someone would start another thread on this.

There's only, like, 5...

Lamest escalation ever.

Billions of dollars to shoot down a balloon?

How so.

Would they not just have use some 20mm cannon fire to pop the balloon's envelope?

Missiles and rounds are expensive vNex92 but not in the ""Billions"" dept just yet.

Anyone curious why the public was informed pretty quick about another countries tech currently over the US?
Back in the day we'd never have heard so much as a whisper of it till 30-50 years later. In a book that would probably be read by about 10 people.

Arial incursion by foreign country, appropriate military craft deployed, nothing to see here...
It's VERY odd this was blabbed all over the media almost immediately.
Anyone got a clue?
TIA

Lots of stuff (Veritas vid on Pfizer menstrual problems, fake jobs report, Hunter investigation, Ukraine getting wrecked, etc. ) that needed a good distraction

To save face the MORONS in the government should have used a ship mounted railgun or an airborne military laser to poke a hole and make it go down slowly and recover it intact.
