A qantas a380 has made an emergency landing in azebiigan

Apparently it was a dodgy sensor fault indicating a fire or smoke on board.

It is a bit of a worry, as it ain’t cheap to dump fuel to re-land

There's been incidents, but no fatalities since 1951.

Everyone has walked away not dead.

Still a great record even Judge Wapner enjoys today.👍

Don't know why a precaution is worrying. I'd rather they dumped some fuel than lawn dart into the ground

New fire warning sensors will reduce the number of fire warning indications in flight. They're still in development, but they use a dual sensor, combining an optical and smoke detector system. The detector will detect smoke, and if the optical sensor detects smoke, the warning will activate in the cockpit. If one or the other doesn't detect smoke, the warning won't activate.

For now, there will be nuisance alarms. As said, it's far better to dump fuel and land than to keep flying and have another Swiss 111. The biggest issue here is that Qantas doesn't have staff in Baku, so they had to fly engineers in, and the crew had to go into crew rest because of the length of the flight. Their duty day ran out after landing.

QF6025 flew Sydney to Baku to pick up the passengers that are stuck. It’s probably carrying a new sensor as well to fix the aircraft that was QF1. Once fixed that one should fly back to Sydney and either undergo additional maintenance, if required, or be put on another route. From what I heard though, it was an intermittent alert, and there was no smoke or fire.
