Putin signs expanded anti-LGBTQ laws in Russia, in latest crackdown on rights

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday signed into law a bill that expands a ban on so-called LGBTQ “propaganda” in Russia, making it illegal for anyone to promote same-sex relationships or suggest that non-heterosexual orientations are “normal.”

The ban was rubber-stamped by Putin just days after a harsh new “foreign agents” law came into effect, as the Kremlin cracks down on free speech and human rights as its military operation in Ukraine falters.

The new laws significantly broaden the scope of a 2013 law which banned the dissemination of LGBTQ-related information to minors. The new iteration extends the ban on promoting such information to adults as well.

The new laws make it illegal to promote or “praise” LGBTQ relationships, publicly express non-heterosexual orientations or suggest that they are “normal.”

I thought I would share it here!

Its interesting really how Shockingly different the political climate is in Russia compared to the United States .

I wonder does the Russian Orthodoxy Christian Religion have something to do with this , I know at one time Religion was widely suppressed in Russia and undoubtedly that still has some roots in Russian society.

Canada , United States , United Kingdom and other European nations are becoming insanely Woke and Russia is passing what amounts to Anti-Gay laws the contrast is shocking . China is a communist/socialist nation that does not share the Woke ideology of Socialist European nations , which means Wok-ism is not Socialism it's something else entirely .

The question is who planted these Woke seeds and why ?


It makes me wonder is this a long game PsyOp by Russia and China on the NATO nations ? Russia and China cant take NATO in a fair fight so it seems clearly the aim is to destroy the Back-Bone and masculinity of the NATO nations it's genius really. And no I don't agree with what Russia is doing at all but I also don't agree with WOKE politics either.

Not being Russian, and thus unfamiliar with whatever passes for the "political" processes therein, I hesitate to render too much in the way of judgement - based on the assumption that Russian people's will is being expressed here. But I wanted to point out something contextual that CNN may have glossed over.

The context I refer to is "foreign agents."

Most of these kinds of "issues" seem to arise as NGO's ply their marketing trade within countries outside their own... NGO's are the new 'wildcard' when it comes to influencing the public of any country. Using funds from other "donating agencies" they embark of campaigns of "enlightenment" regarding issues such as, women's, religious, minority, and even 'gay' rights... I had always presumed an explicit disconnect between religion and the Russian government... perhaps there is an element of that here... but the Russian citizens themselves need to wrangle that question... as is their right.

These campaigns seem often to make a case against existing orders of society (be they for moral reasons or otherwise) - but they are not actually 'part' of the society they are campaigning in. Making confronting them complicated and unruly.

I see the theoretical value of such organizations... but I do not deny that they are very often more powerful than they should be - and can easily be exploited by ideological influencers to ends not germane to their notional cause...

I also note the choice of the words "rubber stamped" which would lead me to infer that this was an action taken casually out of hand, as a matter of course. As if it were not unexpected.

This article seems a trapping for political theater... once again, kindling for the "this is what you must think" message we see embedded most things MSM of late. Especially when we are being driven to hate all things Putin and Russia.

But people who insist that their choice of sexual activity, or choice of personal imagery, is a "public issue" might disagree - as is their right.

This is exactly as I read it!!!

I am not an expert (or even an amature) about the goings on of the Russian political/government system but I do know that a statement and/or law that makes such things "unlawful" is interesting! I shouldn't use "interesting" because truthfully I wonder secretively how such a thing would be viewed in the good ol' USA!

Considering the source of this "news" is certainly a compelling argument that it is agenda related!

As a self proclaimed constitutionalist, I have to deeply consider that there would be some moral issues against such a thing happening here...but also some moral issues in favor of the same thing!

Well the Russians don't believe in any freedoms anymore, at all levels they attack and ban religions outside of the traditional Russian ones, and now basically banned the LGBTQ community as well. Imagine being a gay male at prime draft age in Russia right now, life would horrible, best leave and get out.

A member can display homophobia, a person can suffer from homophobia.

That kind of proclamation reduces all members into one thing. ATS was never "one thing."

It's sort of like saying all members of a political party, or a religion, or a skin color are racist, or sexist, or whatever. It just doesn't conform to reality.

Provisionally, maybe there are anti-gay or whatever web sites out there in the ether of the internet. I wouldn't know. I might not even be surprised. So I'll grant the name-callers that.

Nothing to do with homophobia

It's exactly as the other poster said - most people are against child grooming and pedophilia.
Most normal parents do not want their grade school kids exposed to drag queen sexual fetishes or books of masturbation etc

Just to make it even clearer for self-centered low iQ people, we do not support kids being exposed to strip clubs, pole dancers or other heterosexual material either

WE are the parents
For OUR kids, WE decide and WE don't want ANY sex for that age group

While I whole heartedly agree with you...

No...that's it...I whole heartedly agree!

I think a better balance is needed in the west, LGBTQ shouldn't be persecuted/shamed or anything else; but HR departments need to quit pandering to them at such a high level, at the expense of everybody else.

Look at that restaurant that refused to serve that group of pro-lifers; why many of the servers were LGBTQ......
I have been in the service industry for years, you don't get to pick who you will serve or won't unless they are saying rude/hateful things to you, then that is different. It can't just be about people existence and having different opinions and perspectives than yourself being hurtful, especially if they are respectful and say nothing around you.
But like a bunch of wimpy snowflakes they canceled the reservation, when the waiter googled them and said he would refuse to serve them before they even arrived at the restaurant. And the owner backed them up.
This is the type of things they are doing that upset people....and rightfully so.
So as I said a better balance is needed in the West.
