I'm on day 10 of a 60 consecutive day nightshift after which I will be able to fly home and relax for two weeks.

8 of these 10 days I've woken up after just 2 hours of sleeping.

As you can imagine I'm starting to take a few hits.

I've taken a prescribed sleeping pill from a colleague and that gave me 6 hours.

The thing is I'm not into sleeping pills.

I still exercise daily and where I'm at I've got a very firm king size mattress which has even alleviated a bit of lower back pain I had before starting the job.

Caffeine is keeping me honest through the night and 2 hours before my shift ends I drink one last cup, mostly 4 cups a night.

I can instantly fall asleep when I hit the sack but 2 hours later and boom.

No sleep for these weary bones.

Everybody in my team suffers from the same symptoms.

Any advice?

Magnesium helps me sleep. Article

A local vitamin store often has this one on sale for 8-9 dollars.

I wish.

That'll have to wait until I'm back home.

I'll give that a try, thanks!

At the moment I'm only taking vit D, vit B complex and zinc.

I take a small dose of Benedryl when I go too long without sleep. I use the liquid as the 25mg tabs are too much for me; I end up being in a fog all the next day on a full dose.

Melatonin has the same effect, but can cause some crazy dreams.

If I have any coffe within six hours of bedtime I won't be able to sleep more than 2 or 3 hours.

When I worked nights I got so sleep deprived from constantly waking that I bought a subliminal message tape with ocean waves and played it all night on an aotu-reverse tape recorder; it was a life saver!

I have a sleep machine now that plays ocean waves, thunder storms, etc. that helps me unwind if I've been too active before bedtime. My brain seems to need at least 2 or 3 hours to calm down before I can sleep, and my work schedule interfered terribly.

Do relaxing things, don't force yourself to anything it takes time. A hot chocolate and a blanket, not kidding, and just go 'meditate'.
Focus on your breath first classical relaxing you let it flow and observe. Focus on your muscles relax.
Imagine something simple a yellow circle or whatever you feel comfortable with and just let go. Your mind will keep talking but just let it.
10 seconds later you're out again.
And after a week or so you'll sleep longer and longer uninterrupted.

I'll wake up and lie in a haze for another 2 hours before getting up where my mind is not busy at all.

My mind switches off but still no sleep...

Till Brooklyn!

Thanks Peeps.

Maybe that's the problem? Force yourself to snap out when you notice you're up and do something small before you sleep again?
You're stuck in between

Thc withdrawal from the sounds of it. I have this problem on most work trips. It passes after 3 days and gets better. If not I GET A delta 8 or 10 vape and this resolves the issue.

Are you talking about masturbation?

I wish I had asked him why when my endocrinologist told me not to take melatonin to help me sleep, but I didn't.

Are you drinking any alcohol before you go to bed? I have been told that will interrupt your sleep, just as you are describing.

Plausible, except it's almost two weeks and my colleagues who don't pass a dutchie at all are in the same boat as me.

Also, never on a job like this. I see it as detox of sorts.

Zero alcohol.

It's all dry sites.

I prefer it that way too anyway.

I ahve had this problem since i was a little kid. I usual sleep in 15 minutes then i am up 3 hours before a fall a sleep for a few minutes. so basically i have lived on 3 hours a night. But i get use to it. A few tips. Calm powdered magnesiun helps, no caffeine after 2pm. Meditate. Light therapy Or avoid all together. a reply to: 19Bones79

Definitely going to get some magnesium.

My last cup is roundabout 3am and 4am is always the hardest part of the night. Come 5:30 and I am lights out.

I'll have to figure out how to scale it back an hour or so.
