Several hours after former Cuban leader Fidel Castro died at night on November 25, 2016, Barack Obama's White House press office issued a statement regarding the death of Fidel Castro, and this passage from the Fidel Castro death statement put out by the Obama White House caught me off guard:

Today, we offer condolences to Fidel Castro's family, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Cuban people.

We all know that Obama's mention of condolences to Fidel Castro's family was hypocritical because it gave many Cuban-Americans and other freedom-loving Americans the impression that the first African-American president of the US was sorry for the death of an evil tyrant, although Obama was lucky that he did not attend Fidel Castro's funeral and memorial service (there is an unofficial White House cardinal rule saying that US presidents must never, EVER, attend mass-murdering communist dictators' funerals because doing so would disrespect not just US values but also communism's victims). Thus, my speculation is that if former leader Raul Castro dies, then the Biden White House press office will issue this statement:

My thoughts and prayers are with the Cuban people as they mourn the passing of Raul Castro. The US remains committed to utilizing every tool at its discretion to empower the Cuban people to determine their future and lead successful lives at home through greater economic opportunities.

Such a statement, while sure to receive denunciations from Marco Rubio, Rick Scott, and a few other Florida politicians for not mentioning that Raul Castro ordered the shootdown of privately-owned planes flown by the Brothers to the Rescue organization in February 1996, would take into account the superfluous political and military career of Raul and focus more on the Cuban people's future rather than past grudges against Fidel Castro for killing political opponents by firing squad and trying to implant his bankrupt ideology upon all of Latin America, considering that Joe Biden dumped Trump's Cuba policy last May.
edit on 23-9-2022 by Potlatch because: Added note that Obama did not attend Fidel Castro's funeral
