Fun fact.. worms can live under water w/enough dissolved o2.

On a side note..perhaps this is reason for the anal problem in E.T. abduction stories.
..or the breathable fluid one is supposedly submerged in.

I read about this the other day, and although it's kinda funny, it's also incredible.
This might be a life saving treatment in the future and maybe even a way for people to
swim underwater for extended periods of time?

It's a problem for ET's? I thought it would be more of a problem for humans.

If Eric Cartman and Martha Stewart can eat via their ass I suppose this could work as well. I would not want to have to fart out my mouth though.

I can think of a sizeable group of healthy humans willing to work on developing this, merfolk.

I know some who have paid over ten thousand dollars for realistic silicone tails. Now, if they could stay under water an hour or two with equipment hidden in those tails, they would be all over this technology.

The problem with fluid breathing with lungs is the flow restriction and muscle use in actually inhaling and exhaling the fluid. While the rate of breaths is lower because of the increased oxygen in the fluid, the effort is much more tiring. Also the transition is rough on both the beginning and ending to fluid breathing.

I wonder the average meat wagon ride time length.

30 mins could be a lifetime. Literally.
Always good to have another tool in the box either way.

..and which orifice does it come out?..if at all.

Burp/fart/or shart?..or all three?

Seriously though, if there are two methods for keeping us alive..

1. ANAL o2
2. Lung fluid.

Why would some aliens choose one over the other?

In the movie mission to Mars near the end, Gary Sinise's character is in a tube the fills with clear bubbly fluid and breathes it after being apprehensive af.

I checked and this stuff is really pricy. $3200.00 usd for 700ml on eBay.

I also don't see anything coming out. I have a couple of cheaper tails and they are snug fitting so they will hold any fittings in. They don't look good if they are loose and floppy. Even the fabric ones are tight fitting.

The theory of the fluid spacesuit and fluid filled space ships is that the person being oxygenated all over ages slower or does not age at all. This is because their whole body is provided oxygen more efficiently by absorption.

The Garry Anderson series 'UFO' utilized this with the aliens. The aliens could breath Earth's atmosphere but when they were taken from their breathing fluid, they began to age quickly. The trip was so long that they were long past their normal life expectancy when they arrived here.

Modulation of the ECS would in my mind come into play for extended travel..

If I'm not mistaken, the Endocannabinoid system regulates cellular homeostasis.
