This was placed in this forum instead of Weaponry due to the varied uses of Optical enhancement,(though for the purpose of this thread I will be referring to optics for primarily weaponry) and I wanted to avoid responses by guys who make their Old Lady call them 'Whitefeather', or that frequently cosplay as Richard Marcinko.(May he forever be blowing stuff up in the great beyond) Also nomenclature obsessed 'experts', or COINTELPRO losers, or John law trying to trick some shmeel into buying contraband.

Now that's out of the way. Whats needed?

1. Fundamentally. What is the primary function of an optic? In this case, one for a weapon. Yes, a targeting optic..What does it do? This should be answered in one sentence.

2.Depending on Your answer to number one, or Your ability to accept the answer to number one, will determine wether You can be of any assistance.

3. What can a scope/optic not do? I other words, what is Your, the users primary function?

Lets start there.

To help site the target.

Primarily to increase the range at which a target can be properly identified visually and in this case shot.

The scope/optic cannot manoeuvre the weapon or pull the trigger.

Users function is to maintain the weapon so as to be safe to use, identify and utilise the weapon to shoot a target.

1. Our optic nerve transmits all visual information to our brains, i imagine target optics helps transmits visual information/light to our eyes.

2. I dont see a question.

3. Primary users function is to sight the weapon, fire, and hit the target.

How?

Your other two perspectives are perfectly stated the way I understand this also.

This is the direction we need to head.

Number 2 was sort of redundant on my part.
And correct on number 3.

There are several ways the how can be obtained. Answering in one sentence is quite a restriction, however, through the use of adjustable mirrors and through electronic enhancement (including adjustments for light levels, thermal emissions)

Typically a magnification is achieved by way of adjustable mirrors.

only old men need glass at the range lol, jk

but relying on optics is dangerous, what happens when it breaks or lost or damaged some how.

i shoot iron sights all the time out to 75-100 yards.

im getting older so maybe ill get my gun some glasses soon

in reality i shoot with a 4x32 ACOG red dot.

some people are snobs when it comes to their choice of magnification and its so lame, i can shoot just as good with a 50$ red dot as i can with a 400$ one. As long as its zeroed in i can compensate for whatever issues that may be present in cheep glass

For now, lets make the word 'magnification' off limits.
Also, Id like to reference Your other points at a later time. Mirrors may well come into play.

Even though You didn't exactly ask..The point is to change the world with an innovation in optics (as well as their integration) And of course that any monkey can shoot a gun, but not just any monkey can design a tool.

magnification

My second long gun when I was 10 or so was a 54 cal. Lyman Trade rifle. It had Elkhorn sights. Cap and ball..lots of fond memories from that old thing..got a ball stuck in it once, hid it out in the shed because I didn't want to tell my dad about it or bring a weapon with a charge in it into the house..I was pretty worried..Tried using my ball puller, couldn't remove the breach plug, it was a mess..I jacked up the nipple opening..at one pint I was going to use firecracker fuse to try to set it off while it was in a vice..I digress..Elkhorn sights..Great optics…And correct me if Im wrong..dont magnify.

Getting an idea and guidance about the trajectory of the projectile?

Are you hinting on computerized scopes that will order the gun to release the pin in just the right moment?

I’m the same. As long as the weapon is zeroed and stays zeroed.

To the OP, reference away my friend. You’ve piqued my interest.

No, but that sounds interesting…and a bit scary.
