My job just informed me of the possibility of a new threat in our society. Sun Ban Stories, is a new fad that has the potential to have a negative impact on victims that often become our patients.

We have had patients that have been victims of air tagging, social media stalking, and gaslighting. Now Facebook seems to be upping the ante.

Knowing that Facebook is discussing building facial recognition into these things curdles the stomach.

www.buzzfeednews.com...

We have been warned of the coming technology age, where we will live in constant surveillance and will be slaves, monitored and controlled by electronic means. That time may be here.

Watch "Escape from LA" with Kurt Russell. We are LITERALLY almost at this point. (without LA sinking of course.

If you don't have a Facebook page then you don't have that to worry with....I don't have that to worry with. Each person is in control of their online presence. Period.

Seems like it could also be a part of the transhumanist agenda via human augmentation. The human augmentation documents talk about how science can make bodysuits that basically turn humans into robot or cyborg like beings. This could be a piece of that. Until they are able to engineer these abilities directly into our genes. This is a screenshot of their projected timeline from the PDF "human augmentation: dawn of a new paradigm" here is a quote from the link:

The Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC) has worked in partnership with the German Bundeswehr Office for Defence Planning to understand the future implications of human augmentation (HA), setting the foundation for more detailed Defence research and development.

The project incorporates research from German, Swedish, Finnish and UK Defence specialists to understand how emerging technologies such as genetic engineering, bioinformatics and the possibility of brain-computer interfaces could affect the future of society, security and Defence. The ethical, moral and legal challenges are complex and must be thoroughly considered, but HA could signal the coming of a new era of strategic advantage with possible implications across the force development spectrum.

The screenshot above is from page 41 of the PDF which you can find along with more details about this at:

Unfortunately, you can still be targeted, without even knowing what Facebook is.

While I agree with your concept, in modern times that's not so true.

Look around at all these social sites and all the background people.

Each person is in control of what they themselves put online, but they are not in control of the other people who decide to record, display, and develop other peoples lives (even inadvertently) for their own social media dopamine addiction. So in reality, a person has to be pretty careful today if they want to keep their online presence down to minimal.

Tech is advancing but our morale compass is not moving any closer to true north and tech can't help us with that problem. We likely figure it out but it's going to be a while. Looks like we have to go further away from north first before we can get closer to it.

Not read the whole article but from. Memory it was a company called TrapWire that was doing the facial recognition years ago

Then they was going to reward people by signing up..
so shops for example know who you are when you step in the store and they would get store discount.

It doesn't take much for them to get enough people to sign up for the trap.

Social media is a massive web that snares even those that don't realize they have been caught up.

I have found that many who are unaware, or think they are protected, are often the most vulnerable.

Anonymity can be a vicious weapon.

I'm interested in how your job feels this tech will be detrimental for your clients? The tech itself all ready exists.

I think public surveillance is pretty sketchy; and Facebook is horrendous, but I'm curious how this will contribute any further to social media stalking, and gaslighting. If it ever has facial recognition that the public could use I could see how that might he an issue, but I can't see that happening.

But, if it's just the tech itself your job is worried about, it's readily available.

Why are they targeting me ? How are they gonna influence me ?.The individual is in control of themselves...we have been sorta since the dawn of time. Saying we're being forced onto Facebook or any other site or that we are gonna be controlled via the internet is a simple copout for ones on actions. We are very much aware that the tech already exists and it is already being used, especially among some of the more unsavory characters that we have had to deal with.

My job likes to make us aware of any new social trending that may be have possible impact on victims, some which may become my patient.

As a Forensic Nurse, I have had patients that were the victims of regular stalking, cyber stalking, and gaslighting. Our field IT team is amazing. I have been surprised at what technology is out there, and how some criminals have become masters of how to use it.

I don't have Facebook and have not had it for about ten years, after my children were grown. Facebook is no longer "just" a web site. And collecting of your data is not exclusive to Facebook. You can control yourself, but it is not very easy to control your internet footprint.

There is a criminal element out there that takes advantage of any personal data it can get its hands on, and they have developed some very creative ways to get us to relinquish it to them.

You don't have to be a user of Facebook to become a victim of someone that uses Facebook.

Keep an eye on global bandwidth if you want to know where the "prison" project is at so to speak...

Tie that in with the internet of things and AI.

Every single thing from phones, computers, tv's, fridges, light switches, transport, website visits, posts, opinions, medical information, chipped pets, anything and everything will be connected to the internet of things. The only thing that is keeping this at bay is bandwidth and not for much longer.

Facebook? Doesnt matter if you have Facebook or not you can be tracked, your movements predicted, thoughts and every single thing known about you in real-time.

Yet judging from some replies, here we all are still sitting here arguing about whether someone has a facebook or not and who's more awake and in control than someone else

Basically in my opinion nobody stands a chance, this has been planned and slowly introduced in a way that anyone wanting to stop the tide can't. We are quite simply fu**ed.

Not really others can post pictures of you to FB, can say things about you that can be negative or positive, the times I can recall people saying “that’s going on FB that is” and that was just mates ribbing each other.

I believe we are way past being able to put the genie back into the bottle. I realized many years back, that the world had reached a point where is is easier to find the people that are unplugged, than it is to find the people plugged in. Like it is easier at night to find the person that lives in a house that has no electricity, than to find the person that lives in a house that has electricity, when the whole development is fully lit.

The amount of data we generate is so massive at this time, that they have trouble being able to store and manage it all.

Now the question is what can we do about it? How can we do a better job of controlling, protecting, and managing our important and personal data, that we want to keep private.

We have been conditioned to rely on mechanical and electronic devices, and equipment. Electronics are such an integral part of our lives, that separating from them would be quite a challenge for a while. It would be like suddenly having to cook with sticks, rather than with a stove.

It is not that my job is anti progress. Just the opposite. Most of our tech guys are on any new technology like white on rice. It is just part of the job to keep up with the changes and trends as society changes, because from a forensic standpoint, it is required to at least try to keep up with the criminal element, if we are going to be effective in assisting and protecting our communities.

I agree. In fact I was reminded of that last week when I read Ecclesiastes 1.

Though it is futile, my spirit is not ready to give in. Maybe all is futile, because not enough have ever fought back, or just said "no".
