So news came out earlier this week that Facebook had managed to be hacked, exposing personal data for a half a billion users. Crickets largely chirped, especially from Facebook itself. fox8.com... Amazing how one of the taglines for this was "all 533,000,000 Facebook records were just leaked for free" as if these idiots have zero issues with the open knowledge that Zuckerberg makes his money off of selling user data. So the machine continues to roll on and few users are overly fussed over things.

Then this afternoon Facebook goes down and Katie bar the door, now the army of morons are agitated... comicbook.com...

Humanity is a joke of a species. We get upset over stupid crap and totally ignore the big issues. It's literally swallowing camels while choking on gnats. You can't get your instant gratification fix of seeing what some hoochie on FB is currently waxing poetically about, can't share the latest Minion meme, and can't bitch about the fact that you just had to deal with an irritating neighbor's dog crapping in your yard again for what? 15 minutes so far? 15 freaking minutes of a worthless throw away social media site being down and it's pitchfork and loud complaint time? And people wonder why everything modern humanity has touched has turned to crap?

This is why we are left with the presidency we have.

This is why we are left with the senate and congress we have.

This is why our society is no longer able to hold its own.

This is why we will never raise a hand against the powers that hold us down.

This is the realization that we aren't becoming slaves; we already are. We beg our masters for the trivial things they give us- the ability to post on our social medias and enjoy what sugars and sweets they pump out.

To ever think that we are going to have some righteous fight for freedom, to overthrow the usurpers... To make Madison, Jefferson and the others turn rightside up again in their graves...

Its a pipe dream. Americans are so far removed from what freedom really is, and what needs to be given to secure it, that it will never be again.

I weep for our culture, and our society. I am a son of the Revolution, and my ancestors are ashamed.

Oh, the last 13 months proved that one without a shadow of a doubt. This country is largely now pathetic crybabies that seek comfort from their rulers rather than doing what's needed to provide for themselves as we once did back when we had pride and a taste for liberty.

I'm still picturing a "Hoochie waxing poetically" in the sense of body hair removal while reciting Keats and may have an idea for a new pornography genre.

Now, what were you saying about humans being degenerate swine?

Gee, there are some good comments in this thread so far. At least some people are not dumbed down so they cannot see what is going on.

I wonder who raised those crybabies?

Yeah...GenX

Got 4 teenagers running around, 1 just turned adult and two are under 10. Busy household but before we started with children we made the agreement that one of us was going to quit their job and be a parent.

Never had a day where other people (besides school) had the task of raising my kids.

I take full responsibility for the outcome.

Peace

My wife and I have done the same. Single income family, homeschooling the kids, full responsibility. My kids don't watch TV, their internet usage is school related only, the curriculum we use is all about as far away from the common core garbage as it gets, and they are well read on Orwell, Rand, and the Foxfire books.

Here in SA there's another social media/phone app called WhatsApp.
This was also bought by Zuckerberg and company a while back.
I'd say that for most of my local friends Facebook has become almost dormant, that is people have accounts but hardly use them, only to check for private messages, or to post the odd song and photo.
And "Happy Birthday" every year, with evermore uneasy variations to make it interesting, like "Happy Birthday old man", or "Happy Burpday"!

The days where it was an exciting discussion forum with "free speech" are long gone.
I mean what? They now banned the voice of Donald Trump?
www.bbc.com...

I used to toggle between ATS and Facebook, but now I just come here.
Discussing politics on Facebook is just too risky in SA, not only could they suddenly close your account with all your pics and contacts, but even worse, some drunk or badly worded joke could go viral, and next thing you lose your job and radicals want to burn your house down.
Then there's the sudden viruses that post porn on all your friends' profiles and infect your entire computer.

Although everyone's telling me to get WhatsApp, I really don't want to download it - you got to buy phone data, and then my Uber app disappears.
The odd thing though is that Facebook and WhatsApp is the same company, and share user info:
9to5mac.com...

Yet in SA if you don't have WhasApp you're almost a social cripple.
Apparently in the US WhatsApp never took off big time, because the regular SMS costs are low.
It's only really popular in migrant communities who want to chat cheaply with their relatives or friends abroad.
Not sure it's true, but so I've heard.

Never once in human history have individuals had this much power and influence over the majority of the planet. In the frail pasty hands of some participation award carrying Marxist who never did an actual day of work in his or her life. This should end well...

Very nicely ranted. I couldn't agree more.

Its official: the dumbing down of America was successful. I honestly don't know if people truly don't recognize the dangerous precedents being set as we speak or if its cognitive dissonance. There is a huge and obvious disconnect between where we are and where we need to be and it seems as though no one cares. There are more than enough good reasons to be screaming in the streets. This is the last place that a free society will ever exist and we are watching its extinction like its a mutual of omaha wildlife special. But yeah, lets have a tantrum over fb.

A lot of people voted for that because they looked at Trump and considered all of the above to be preferable to him for a second term.

What you're feeling now is what Democrats felt for the last 4 years. I'm sure that they have just as much sympathy for you now as you had for them back then.

I'm an older member. I lived under Communism. I think that you're all a load of whiny snowflakes.

This is boring.

We all know how simple alot of Americans have become. I'm not worried about FB. I couldn't care less. What worries me is where my target audience is for my fiction.

Me and Taupin Desciple are going to team up and make a living writing without FB. I would suggest that others do the same with whatever it is they do.

i mean.. to some extent i assume that the leaked level of data is already out there about me and that's the price of using facebook to stay connected to my distant family and friends. i'm at peace with that so the leak is not really that exciting to me. and it's also why i never gave facebook my phone number in the first place. but that's kind of the deal we've made, using social media, and smartphones. some of our info is out there.

on the other hand, i also didn't get excited that facebook was down for a few hours. maybe some people need a few more hobbies..
