Nation's First New Coronavirus Strain Found In Colorado

The Colorado State Laboratory confirmed and notified the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of the case.

The individual is a male in his 20s who is currently in isolation in Elbert County and has no travel history, according to the press release from the state.

"The fact that Colorado has detected this variant first in the nation is a testament to the sophistication of Colorado’s response and the talent of CDPHE’s scientist and lab operations,” said Jill Hunsaker Ryan, executive director, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. “We are currently using all the tools available to protect public health and mitigate the spread of this variant.”

Public health officials are doing a thorough investigation. The individual is recovering in isolation and will remain there until cleared by public health officials.

The individual has no close contacts identified so far, but public health officials are working to identify other potential cases and contacts through thorough contact tracing interviews.

Ok. Here we go. I didn't figure it would take long. He is in isolation and they are working to contain. However I don't think containment is going to work. They are saying that he did not travel. So containment will likely be out of the question. He caught it here, which means there has to be at least another case right?

Is this about the new variation that appeared in the UK, the one from South Africa or a new one?

The first case of UK COVID-19 mutation found in US was about to post LOL. It's the UK strain an I agree it's here and containing it will be unsuccessful. Of course, the UK is freaking out as it does seem to be more contagious rumors of their hospitals being overwhelmed but deaths aren't matching the spike.

I'm willing to bet that not only was this story conceived months ago, but the article itself was probably written back in June or so as a template with names filled in later.

Yep. Rumors are already swirling everywhere. I have read (no links at the moment) that the new strain is not as deadly but more contagious maybe (like you stated) and that health officials are saying that the new vaccine should work for this strain as well (not sure how that works since it's a NEW strain.)
