Social media is dying by its own hands.

Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and others are closing down on anything to do with Qanon, or at least, they're trying to.
It's affecting many people in many ways. Some of those that it has affected, or will affect, are those who rely on YT and other SM sites for their livelihood.
Reporting anything that goes against the system is, effectively, becoming a crime.

Many users have been reporting their viewer/follower counts being throttled/adjusted so that the account does not get the usual audience (or earnings) it usually would.

We are at war. Not just any war, but a digital war for your mind and soul. If the "bad guys" win, expect a way of life that goes hand in hand with 1984, surpasses anything the National Socialist party of Germany could ever have done and find yourself fitted with microchips, forced vaccinations and social tracking EVERYWHERE (online and in RL)

A few days back, a SM account was banned because the owners of the site "thought" that the post made by the account holder went against their guidelines. They did not give a specific reason. The only thing they offered as a good enough reason for the ban was their thoughts on a valid topic of discussion.

FB, YT and Twit are huge players. They've effectively cornered the market in the Western world and are so strong that they partner with Google and clamp down on "Fake News". Turns out that they, and the newspapers, are the one spamming us with fake news and they've been doing for well over 100 years.

The Century of the Self is an amazing documentary. It takes you through the beginnings of Psychology, Freud and his Nephew who literally sold our minds to the media machine in order to gain control and profit. The "machine" has used psychology against us.
We have been considered "dangerous" by those who are in positions of power, and rightly so too, for if we knew what these "powerful" people were really up to, we'd be on them faster than you can say pizzagate, for example..
Effectively, we have been dumbed down, controlled and fed what to think and believe for a very long time through all forms of social media. At first, it was the newspapers, then along came radio.. TV was next until we went through the digital revolution and had computers and mobile phones.

And hardly anybody noticed. Some did, and for some of those "some" they'd go on to push the message out through "rebellious" music (BBC banning John Lydon for example)

and if they couldn't say it in words, they'd say it in their videos as imagery, effectively using the exact type of weaponry that "those in control" were using, giving us a battle field of digital proportions. Many a digital soldier has fallen but not before they were able to leave their messages.

With the increase in "shadow bans" and illegal account adjustments being made on SM members, many are now leaving the big names and are going elsewhere. Very much like some people wanted more secure and private browsing by changing to a browser that offers such, they are now going to sites such as Pilled.net which is really new and is still having some bugs ironed out but a lot of people are now starting to use this as an alternative to the mains stream SM platforms.
It's a bit like ATS I suppose except you can post one liners, or memes etc and not worry too much about it. Pilled appears to be developing in a way that it mimics FB AND Twitter and will even be offering a streaming service soon!!

Parler is another one that's been rising. Those who have been drifting off from Twit are sailing towards to parler. Personally, parler is slow, unusual and doesn't really have the tools with which you could genuinely call it a SM platform. It feels a lot more like a "post it now and wait 7 hours for someone to maybe reply or notice you've even posted" canal boat than something you'd like to be seen sailing the 7 seas in..

So with this new revolution of "platform wars", who'll be the winners and the losers?
Well, if the Big guns want to keep on shadow banning or fixing peoples accounts and calling their posts fake news, then they're going to have a MAJOR problem later due to all the court cases that'll be cropping up against them for things such as restricting the right to freedom of speech, deliberately manipulating accounts to inflict a financial loss as examples.
Meanwhile, the new guys, many of which claim to be "The NEWS NOW!" are on the up and up and can only keep on rising as millions of people begin to move away from Google etc.

Many are also starting to use alternative search engines instead of Google because of what Google has become.

The big guns have had it too good for too long. Recording and selling ever key stroke we make, making profiles on us to aid in directed advertising towards each and every individual for maximising profits, pushing the voices of a few "at the top" who decide for us what we can say or do. Then along came covid and that just upset the apple cart even more.

With well established platforms such as ATS, Cost2Coast etc, the new guys, such as pilled.net, can rub shoulders and look towards a bigger and better future for freedom of speech without the shadow of "big brother" looming over them from behind..

I really have no productive comment.
Your OP has nothing controversial to rail against.
Looks like TRUTH to me.
Carry on!

Social media dying out would probably be the best thing that's happened to this country, besides electing a president with a backbone, in a very very long time.

Century of the Self was a life changing series for me when I first saw it, it is absolutely worth the investment of time.

Social media cant and wont die out. We are social creatures.
It's the way the current status quo have used their platforms against us that is the problem.
There will be more and more NEW Social platforms cropping up that DO NOT and WILL NOT be used in the same way.

Should government step in and regulate content on privately owned business like social media sites? Is that what you want?

Let the marketplace decide. Don't watch it if you don't like it. Just like TV or ATS for that matter.

If trump wasn't on twitter, I wouldn't even bother to make an account. I want to see what he posts.

Only if they don't agree with me. They should also tell legacy media outlets like newspapers, magazines and television stations what to say if they aren't saying what I like.

trump hates the media, he needs to shut them all down. We can get all the info we need from twitter.

Regulate content?
No..no way..

But regulate how content is vetted?
That's a bit different.

Social media sites are businesses just like restaurants and retailers. YouTube can't delete a biden support video any more than a restaurant can't refuse to serve a biden supporter.

Rules of use are fine but they must be applied equally.

The US Government (Trump effectively) has actually been moderated by Twitter for posts made..
Had it been the Dems posting, nothing would have happened..
We're at war..

Exquisitley made point

There most definitely is a "them V us" attitude on several of the SM platforms and they do appear to be foccused on promoting things such as BLM, Antifa and the Democrats for some bizzare reason..

There's plenty of alternatives that people can use.

Especially crypto blockchains like hive.blog... or steemit.com... With crypto the posts will live as long as the blockchain does.

Social media is terrible. It infects our children and ironically, social media destroys their social skills. It's the worst thing that has ever tapped into our recent society.

Except it's not going anywhere and will only become more and more ingrained into the culture. Not too far off in the future I'm sure people will have devices implanted that will permit them to interact with social media platforms in real time.

You're kids will become walking Instagram apps.

What about statues? Because I say don't look at them if you don't like them but people love tearing them down if they don't like them. Live and let live, amirite? All we get from those people are "If I don't like it, it's being removed. If you don't like it, too bad." That's not gonna fly.

The internet was supposed to make people smarter with so much information at their fingertips but it just made stupid easier to find.

Should have seen that coming.

How will you know who to shoot in this war. How will you recognize the enemy?

I don't support tearing down anything and that includes social media. Let the marketplace decide what they want to watch and or consume.

Other than my 18 year old (because he's out and about on his own), my kids don't even have cell phones or a computer. I know social media isn't going anywhere, but it's a bane on society and culture. If it ever disappears, maybe reality tv can disappear with it.
