Update: March 24 Tuesday Tokyo noon time

first I want to say that Trump is getting all the bad news and he seems to be handling it all well for his age. could the two others running handle, yes, by saying it will all go away in time, meaning they don't want to be bothered with it.

Trump is mentioning the economy, this is a killer virus in 2 ways. 1. it kills people, even maybe by the millions 2. it is killing the work force

I go cycling and we have 3 sushi houses, and an Sunday at 6 :30 pm the parking lots are all full, but guess what, big signs saying "help wanted". Its crazy I thought about eating raw fish going on the conveyor belt. Japanese as of today, well, they are now going to get a very strong awaking and this is what this thread is about.

This is a very big dent in the incomes of everyone.
What you need to know is that many employees are from Brazil on 2 or 3 year contracts by another hiring company. Will the govt. send those people money? Or will they do nothing.
This will cripple the economy in 5 locations.
Like I have been mentioning Japan is just stalling till the official word of the Olympics is OFF.

This is a great tracker, at least for what I've been using it for and it's updated almost real time.

It gives links for each case (at least the Texas ones) and depending on the reporting organization, will give basic details such as age range, sex, and whether it was travel related or community spread; many also indicate whether home isolated or hospitalized.

Hes really has changed his whole stance on this, theres going to be a lot short films on his flip flopping over this.

I think it is well known in S.Korea that the Malaria drugs helps (maybe not all people though )

I think in South Korea, they only give it out when the disease has progressed to serious critical status. They might be leaving it a bit late, but their numbers are looking good compared with Italy. I would still like to know how many deaths if any have occurred with people already prescribed this drug. It would be the first logical thing to check before going full out with regards to using it, they probably have crunched a few numbers and decided to use it.

On Thursday, the Ruby Princess cruise ship docked in Sydney with dozens of undiagnosed coronavirus cases onboard.
Almost 2,700 passengers - some coughing and spluttering - were allowed to leave the ship at Sydney Harbour, catching trains, buses and even overseas flights to get home.
More than 130 people from the cruise have now tested positive, making it the biggest single source of infections in Australia. One passenger died in hospital on Tuesday.

I think back to a couple of threads ago when I posted a link to a paper showing that types of corona viruses can survive up to 29 days on hard surfaces in hospital settings, peop!e had trouble believing that.
Since then, we have been continually told that the virus can last for 3 days on surfaces.
Now evidence surfaces that the virus can survive for 17 days.
Why 17 days?
Because those were the oldest samples that were available to be collected on the Princess cruise ship.
I wonder what the results would have been if the samples were 3 weeks old.
Sanitization is going to be very important.

It's a strange one, that's for sure. Other ships are quarantined. Reading the article it was said the passengers were low risk because they had 'only' been to NZ.

Well that backfired didn't it. Let off the ship to go to the Airport, catch trains and buses. Some took off overseas and are now infected. Should have disembarked them at the old 'Quarantine' in Syd Harbor.

I think it already is a disaster in some places. Oldest boy has been let go from work, The dole line was miles long (he didn't get a look in) Can't pay his rent so it's back here to home for him. The younger bloke in Year 12, well he's now home as the school is shutting down.

Might have a bit of work here for them cutting timber methinks. No going off the property now. We'll be here for the duration.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 is a global health emergency. An attractive drug target among coronaviruses is the main protease (Mpro, 3CLpro), due to its essential role in processing the polyproteins that are translated from the viral RNA. We report the X-ray structures of the unliganded SARS-CoV-2 Mpro and its complex with an α-ketoamide inhibitor. This was derived from a previously designed inhibitor but with the P3-P2 amide bond incorporated into a pyridone ring to enhance the half-life of the compound in plasma. Based on the structure, we developed the lead compound into a potent inhibitor of the SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. The pharmacokinetic characterization of the optimized inhibitor reveals a pronounced lung tropism and suitability for administration by the inhalative route.

Some of the decisions are so bad, it makes me start to wonder if some governments actually want spread of the disease.
