So, it seems that Sweden has dropped the rape investigations against Julian Assange.

Ms Persson said: "I would like to emphasise that the injured party has submitted a credible and reliable version of events. "Her statements have been coherent, extensive and detailed; however, my overall assessment is that the evidential situation has been weakened to such an extent that that there is no longer any reason to continue the investigation."

Separately, the prosecutors held a news briefing in the Swedish capital Stockholm, saying that the decision to drop the inquiry had been taken after interviews with seven witnesses in the case.

Finally! This ridicules claim has been buried.

But then what?
Now the UK can extradite Assange directly to the US?

It’s just well, Assange is dead, so why bother?

I would be extremely interested in reading the transcripts of those interviews to see what these women actually have to say about Assange, but that would probably be asking for too much.

Sweden has some STUPID rape laws, and he was a victim of that. IIRC he was charged with rape because he was having sex with two women who didn't know about each other. That's rape according to Sweden law.

Yes, from what I gather this was a pretty bogus charge..by any standard.

That's probably why they dropped it , the case was in the way of his extradition to the US so now the US is the only country with a claim on him... how very convenient.

Given the lack of security in US prisons for high profile prisoners I fear for his safety , as no doubt does he.

My exact thoughts also. The little dog gets out of the way or the bigger dog.

And blimey, if they time it right, Trump can play the Assange-card, in the upcoming election.

As part of the extradition proceedings in the UK, it was confirmed that the charges levelled at Assange would have been considered rape in a UK court. On the rape, it was alleged he raped a sleeping woman. That's serious in most jurisdictions.

Clearly you haven't done your homework.

It was a broken condom that was blown out of proportions. It was sniffed up by the US intelligence, and they pressured the police in Sweden to charge Assange.

They wanted him gone for leaking their warcrimes, which you still can find

Yeah, I suppose this was all fairly predictable and, to be honest, quite depressing.

I think it's fair to say the expression, "1984" is not an instruction manual, needs to be updated.

yet, she came back the next morning with breakfast for them both to enjoy

that doesn't sound like someone who's been raped.

You certainly have a way with words and the images that fall out...However Assange does seem to have been jerked around by the authorities.
If he does get extradited to the US, perhaps he has a lawyer with some pull to get him off of the charges.

Perhaps, and "didnt cut it" was your words! Who leaked the data to Assange in the first place? Manning! They leaked data that showed wrong doing! What is the problem? Why the double standards now?

Let me give you an example. Trump just approved annexing more Palestinian territory, and its ok with most. But when Russia annexes part of Ukraine, you all lose your minds?

Double standards much ?

The same with Assange, if he was pro US you would worship, but he dont, he just publishes stuff some rotten governement got away with, and he is a villan?

Double standards much ?

Sorry, but it is you who have not done his/her homework. You are parroting a myth, presumably propagated to demean the rape allegations.

The Arrenst Warrant from Sweden (EAW) outlined four charges.
1. Unlawful coercion
2. Sexual molestation
3. Sexual molestation
4. Rape. To paraphrase the charge. "Assange deliberately consummated sexual intercourse with her by improperly exploiting that she, due to sleep, was in a helpless state. It is an aggravating circumstance that Assange who was aware it was the expressed wish ... and a prerequisite of sexual intercourse that a condom be used, still consummated unprotected sex with her".

You can find this detail if you went and looked at the original EAW, and that is homework.

The rape charge would have been prosecuted in the UK, and this was confirmed during the extradition procedings.

Do your homework.

The court does not have evidence enough to prove him guilty but you think you do.

LOL
