I’m trying to write a story about a scientist who is working on something in the era of the New Republic. He does not believe in the Force. I just need something for him to be researching. It really isn’t that important to the story; it just has to sound cool and scientific. It can’t be something that would be a gamechanger and alter the storyline in a dramatic way. Also it can’t have already been done in Legends or Canon. I want a fresh idea.

It cannot be

A time machine
A teleporter
A matter replicator
A singularity Weapon
Any type of droid
Anything to do with holograms
A food synthesizer
Anything to do with the Force or Midi-chlorians
A shrink ray
A freeze ray
pico and femtotechnology
A Dyson sphere or any type of megastructure.
Liquid metal armor or a nano morph
Any improvements on the hyperdrive
Limb regeneration
Hyperspace nullifier
Holodeck
Knowledge Transfer (Instant learning like in the Matrix)
Philosophers Stone
Kinetic weapons
Solar sail
Anything to do with kyber crystals
Gene editing
Improvements on deflector shields
Mech suit
Exosuit
Gender change
Anything to do with anti-aging
In canon, during the Empire, scientists were researching methods to control droids, lasers that can punch through deflector shields and ship scale disintigrators. These ideas are therefore taken.

A cure for the common cold.

And if you cannot figure this out on your own as a "writer," then be sure and credit anyone on ATS who gives you an idea as a co-author.

They would be working on the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, shortly followed by researching recovery from the effects of the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.

Issue with Star Wars... is that it is really science fantasy or space opera more than science fiction. Scientists are kinda a mute point in the Star Wars universe since it appears that pretty much nothing is impossible. Science has progressed to a point where it is pretty much irrelevant.

Thus... like in your other thread... and what someone said above, if you want to be an author, you need to come up with your own ideas, its kinda called having an imagination and is somewhat key.

Yeah but think about how creepy it is when a ghost rests his or her fingers on your shoulder, like in this photo from 1900.

Didn't you already post this in another forum?

Anyway, as I suggest previously, why not a easy task of conducting a isotope survey. Everything has trace amounts of radiation, and he could literally sample anything anywhere.

Below is a real world example of such, but he need not be limited to known materials. He could be testing new unknown trace's of undiscovered isotopes.

It's feasible, and scientific along with having the potentially to place in in any situation and condition

Since he doesn't believe in the force, his experimentation is all about proving the Force does not exist. The twist of his fate is that he is actually force sensitive and his experimentation unlocks his potential. How he copes with his discovery and the extreme nature of the light and the dark side of the force sets him on a journey of self discovery.

Otherwise, he is working on a new janitorial cleaning agent for the Storm trooper bathrooms because their aim just isn't that great.

How about some change for the moisture farmers. Some BS "hypersonic resonate gas stabilizer" tehcno babel for a sound based condenser for harvesting moisture from the atmosphere.

If you're looking for something that is believable but not groundbreaking you can always take a piece of tech from the universe and come up with some random aspect of the technology you can improve.

phase joined blast shielding? (two shields are used instead of one!)

Fair enough but how much more creepy would it be if it were spirit cooking Hillary's fingers? You'd immediately know you were marked for suicide.

A force scanner to detect the amount of Midichlorians a force user possesses giving them a sort of power level rating. It could be used to gauge encounters as was tracking.
