It was the moon landing that brought me here over 12 years ago seems like a life time ago.

With the recent 49th anniversey of the manned moon landing just passed I thought I would share this,

Israel is to place a lander (unmanned) on the moon. The only other countries to dothis are Russia,USA,china and a planned india mission should win.

This launch is scheduled for December on a space x block 5 falcon 9 but I cannot see a scheduled launch with ths payload in DEC 2018.The payload is secondary so maybe hitching a ride.

The mission is due to land February 2019

There are probably more launch schedules out there but this is the one I use.

The interesting thing for me is this lander will photograph the area and unfurl a flag, and if this is filmed/photoed may show movement in the flag while deploying.

Without starting the did we/didnt we debate (I believe we went all 6 times) I feel with the advancements in commercial rockets space x,blue origin (Moon plan) and others I think within a 10-12 year tim frame we will be going for sure

Thoughts.

So it will be an American rocket with an Israeli payload. That puts it in the same category as a Bangladesh satellite, not quite the same thing as American, Russian, Chinese, etc. launches to the Moon. Israel isn't going to "launch" anything.

Well, sounds like Israel has grown beyond the need for US foreign aid.

Thank you for posting that link. I saw the trailer going through Arizona last month. They were running 10 before heading down to 8 and going under Phoenix. I would have gotten pictures if I realized what it was before I got beside it.

Is there a link that lists all the instruments on the lander, please? All I could find is the magnetometer and a laser reflecting array. This, coupled with only a 2-day mission before the lander succumbs to extreme temperatures, seems to make it for a lousy moon mission.

However, since it's a commercial mission, I guess we can't ask much of them.
