Cult mass suicides

All of these events are thought of when people think of cults and cult mass suicides.

For a long time now its been very quiet on these sort of cult groups .. almost like people are to aware to be manipulated by a charismatic leader who promises out of this world rewards for following.

I admit when Scientology became popular i honestly believed it world end up in mass suicide, to a degree never seen before, but i was wrong.

Im curious why you think these suicide cults have come to and end? Whar cult today do you see as a menace and could be the next Johnstown? Why do you believe a Johnstown hasnt happened again

I believe the internet has a lot to do with it. It's very easy to fact-check and find the backgrounds of would-be cult leaders. Difficult to hide away in today's world.

Heavens Gate.

They really were a peaceful bunch.

I had spoken to a couple of their members before everything happened.
They really believed that aliens were making contact etc.
A couple of their members used to visit a website I was a member of,
it was a huge spiritual website so it attracted a lot of different types of people to it.

Everyone on the website was blown away when Heavens gate happened.
I don't know if they were a part of the group that offed themselves or if they chose not to "board the mother ship".
I honestly don't remember if they did or didn't.

It was sad.

They probably still have members out there somewhere.
I don't think everyone killed themselves.

to be honest, a lot of modern "Cults" have decided to follow the Scientology path. Make money, not die. Most recently we have the:

Moonies
Scientology
NXIV

Its bad business to have mass deaths. But as somone else mentioned its been a while since there has been a mass death, and the Internet probably has a role to play. Its bloody hard to hide nefarious behaviour today. Not impossible. But hard.

I know of a couple of groups that I keep an eye on, thinking they will be in the news one day. For example the Attomwaffen Division.

End? Nah, they still exist. They are called Tesla stock holders.

We are having less and less of them as religion begins to retreat..

Religion only exists in the dark Corner of reality we don’t yet understand..

That used to be EVERYTHING. So religion was thought to rule everything.


The dark corners of reality we don’t understand get smaller and smaller every year. So I think they will become fewer and farther between.


We will probably always have crazy people though.. so I doubt it ever completely vanishes .

Not at all it just isn't discussed in the open they exist. N X ivM , Blood over intent ,Lucas Godtwald all the cults in hollowood and such. It's just now a days cult leaders don't need to show them to the followers. Iphone + websites do the trick.

I remember listening to the audio of the Jonestone massacre. It was one of the most horrible things I've ever listening to.

As it was happening and mother's were being encouraged to have their children drink first, then themselves, it became increasingly obvious to Jim Jones that it was utterly grotesque and evil, and he started saying "oh, gawd" over and over again.

There was nothing peaceful or orderly about it. It was just so sick and twisted.

I don't know why I shared this, but that's what came to mind, the horror of it.
