You just jogged my memory, I completely forgot this crucial detail.

They CAN go in and go poster-by-poster, as tedious and time consuming as it is for no gain because it's not an ongoing glitch that's hampering anything. But they have no clue what the accurate count should be. There's no way to weed out the wheat stars from the chaff stars and leave us glitched posters with our actual counts. It would literally be wasting their time, for nothing.

But the OP wants to believe it's some uber-nefarious conspiracy. Whatever, he can think like the poster child dingdong, I guess.

Well if it was we would need uber-nefarious conspiracy theorists don't we. Reward-systems are very important in social networks / sites and not low level priority at all. but hey , I changed my perspective and now I'm a ghost

Don't be cowed by star counts. You don't always get starred for good posts. The membership is quite fickle that way.

It's a way of showing approval for a post. The points don't mean anything anymore. Once upon a time they were used to buy backgrounds colors, and other mini profile additions, RATS access, etc.

I'm grateful that this BBQ thread prohibits me from starring any of you.

Its easy to see that the star system on ATS is dependent on cliques, members who star each other for political associations.

I agree. Dump stars and flags.

I don't mind stars and flags, I just wish they were accurate, stars on posts let me know how the membership feels good or indifferent to what I post. Some will trend up there stars by posting whatever gets them the most. That is a waste of time to me, and kind of petty. Good or bad I still like to know, but I would trade all my flags and stars to see what the view count is on my threads I create, ATS used to show that. 1000 views is better than a dozen flags and 50 stars.

Good input. I also think ATS' structure allows us to take advantage of swarm intelligence in exploration and research among users with sometimes profound discoveries leading to occasionally hilarious comments. Lots of good stuff to sift through. Flags, stars, view counts, etc., are like phermones that ants leave for others to follow. Improving that system when time and resources exist would be good. ATS is a collective intelligence and repository of research as much as it is current discussions.
