Charyala who is understood to be in Australia on a bridging visa, allegedly wrongly thought the ceremony would help him to get residency, but the marriage is not valid under Australian law.

Now this is only alleged but the fact Charyala did not oppose bail speaks for itself . That aside its quite disturbing all around , firstly an innocent 18 year old is abducted raped , then being married under sharia law is quite horrendous in itself , but the thinking of this man is beyond my comprehension . Was his thinking along the lines of marriage would make the kidnapping and rape disappear . Well i am not sure how it works in the sandbox that is the Middle East but it doesn't fly in Australia . As for the sheik that married them it will be interesting to see if charges will be brought up against him . Yes its the telegraph but other sources wont link

Muslim girls should talk to teachers about this kind of stuff. It will put a stop to any issues escalating.
Just Like Christian boys encourage do now days in schools about peadophilia at home.

In this case it was the parents that notified the police but you are right quite a few illegal marriages are alerted to the police here in Australia by school staff .

I think it was an attempt at deflection away from the topic at hand .

well...as far as I remember...wasnt there recently a law in some Islamic country that if a person marries the rape victim, then the rape is ok or something along those lines. Wasnt Erdogan trying to or succeeded to implement such a law ?

I might be mistaken. It certainly rings familiar.

I'm guessing that's where his reasoning comes from.

Practicing Sharia laws is in non islamic countries are illigal. Usually met with police action. Just like churches involved in peadophilia.

Stop looking for daily dose of racism. Specially from immigrant countries.

Jeeeez

Yes it is when you choose an individual that would rape someone and try to impinge the entire Islamic religion because of it. You seem to have the widest brush I have ever seen.

Truth is he was a sick man and tried to use his religion to cover that up.

Yes, the problem with Shariah Law is that it is not binding, unless you live in country that recognises it as such.

I listened with interest to a programme in the UK on women being hugely discriminated against by Shariah "courts" with regards to marriage and divorce because of the lack of legal recognition. It's a really problematic cultural issue in modern secular societies. The beneficiary is (ahem) the man. Oh, what joy.

Just gotta love the built in sexism that some religions hang on to.

That's a very blanket statement. In fact Sharia law is not illegal in all non Islamic countries.

Does it give you a personal rush to helping rapists, murderers and terrorists, covering it up.. and trying to change focus?
In my book people like you are just as much worth to me as Islamist that kill and rape children and woman and infest the world with their religious controlled life.

You are blind to the horror Islam is causing the world right now.. ?

I hate all religion, but not equally.

Am I a racist for saying that muslims think it's okay to rape kids?
What about middle age white christians doing the same?

I guess the difference is that one group thinks it's legal...

I'm starting to think freedom of religion isn't such a good idea- ban it all.

I think you are misunderstanding what law is. Australia does not have Christian law, it has Australian law, which is primarily based on the principles of common law. An Afghan living in Sydney is bound by Australian laws, and to suggest he should not be is preposterous.

- Shariah law is inconsistent with the law in Australia, because it's based on religious law and dogma. The law is fixed and does not change, hence why it's all weighted against women, minorities, difference and and all the negatives. Shariah is only a "law" were it is recognised as such.
- Common law is based around the the primacy of judges and precedent.
