Which 'theme' (Dark/Light background) do you use on ATS?

I like my ATS the same way I like my bruises - black.

In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine.

In fact, it'd be great if other sites had the option. There's a Google called Blackle and even YouTube has gone for a black version. There's a 'how to' article here. Even my VLC is set on dark mode.

I use my own themes. The one I'm rocking at the moment has a diamond plate, parallax scrolling background and is pretty dark. I also only display the features and links that I actually use and I've rearranged some of the remaining features to where they make more sense from a user's perspective.

that's intense, dude.

Are you suggesting that I have a problem lol?

Okay maybe just a little one.

You can change the colors and layouts of any site you visit pretty easily, but as you know, I'm not allowed to show you how.

No. No suggestions of anything. Just thinking about graphic art and visuals as they pertain to consumers.

Yeah, our color schemes certainly do match up nicely at the moment.

I'm angry if I come here and it's bright white. It means I'm logged out first of all, and the white is way to cheery for the doom porn.
They need it set to default dark, then if some freak comes along and wants their retinas burnt out, they can change it.
It's obvious the dark lord main board rules here!

They do!

I had the same expression in a meeting today and didn't enjoy the realisation. "Sh*t. I'm a reflection of a melancholy chimp."

I'm just so used to the old ATS that I couldn't get used to the white one. I understand what they were going for; modern, sleek, etc., but its just too washed out.

Black, green, and silver are my favorite three colors, anyway.

White as rice....anything else would be an insult to my racial purity.

I find the dark background easier on the eyes. Somebody else asked this question a year or two ago, and all the replies that I saw said the same thing.
A couple of decades back there was a vogue for green screens, for the same reason. I know the old Amstrad word-processors had them.

That's how I know when the cookie has lapsed and I need to log in again- the screen suddenly defaults to white.

I always end up using dark. Used to the sites having it over years and don't do well looking at sites with lighter backgrounds. Looks better with most of my avatar themes anyway.

IMO and it's not to say the site has not done a good job with the light option, just not as easy on the eyes for me. The light side is well done because right now in web design there's a big issue with sites having a light text area background and too light of text where various types of screens, phones and tablets out there, some resolutions are having trouble with the lighter combos.

After spending my work day straining at a white-themed work screen, I like to relax with the dark background. Easier on my blue eyes. I'm photosensitive, and we tend to keep the house darker too. I have to wear a hat and sunglasses if I spend any length of time outside.

It's a conspiracy site....it should be dark by default....Dark all the time is my preference.
