On a serious note.. a lot of the trade schools have disappeared from Chicago.. plus the more trade-ish instruction from HS. Id attended a conference on inner city kids and opportunities through some stuff Im involved in locally and the claim is that black and hispanic kids learn differently than white kids and from each other. Every culture has a learning style etc.. they didnt want to say "race" determines learning style, but from the data thats exactly what it suggests. Ok.. great, now we know so lets tailor it for success. Loud Loud NO from all of those who pretend to be all about racial equality!! Hearing these things out of Chicago just smacks of know it all progressivism and keeping the poor in the poorhouse in the poor part of town to me. If the inner cities were given a hand up and improved... we ALL benefit. Well, everyone but those raping those places .

Id say look into Mr Rahm's past dealings and the Clinton tie in... Racists in Democrats clothing... bastards.

ETA.. kids in general learn differently now than our education system has accounted for. Just one little point.. the kids on my family rez.. know how they are teaching them actual FLUENCY in our language?? Handheld nintendos! We had several generations who lost our language with the homogenizing of education.. it was in effect a dead language. Not anymore. This CAN be done so easily with all kids. They WANT to learn.. even the jerkoffs who are failing in schools in Chicago. Failure is just easier. Appeal to the kids and we have saved our future.

He doesn't want the uninitiated to succeed.

You have to be fully indoctrinated to even be considered for gainful employment in the CTRL-Left dystopia.

You can wash windows and shovel s# if you dare think for yourself.

Evil twat.

...and if you're not gainfully employed, you're part of his party's Kept Voter pool, fully beholden to the Meal Ticket... so he wins either way.

It is just his way of forcing socialism, "free" tuition and buying votes from the welfare class.

If the state requires post-graduation education, the state has to pay for lower income students to attend.

That is some seriously authoritarian, fascist type ****.
We have 2 parties, both are hard core authoritarian / fascist in their own ways. Not much of a choice. Not much of a democracy.

Keep 'em on the dole, keeps 'em on the democratic voting rolls hoping for more "help". Little realizing that they're being treated as fools.

Education isn't a guarantee of success, but without one, the odds become even steeper. ...and this jackwad knows this--how can he not--but doesn't give a flyin' ((bleep)).

College isn't for everyone.

College has become much more than it needs to be.

College should be for intensive education into specialized fields, not to make a person 'well rounded' (ie indoctrinated.)

Im probably going to be the only one but ill say its not a bad idea. You make students think about whats next and in a way push them into making a decision. Now to make it mandatory dont agree with that. But with slight modification this could work just need to have them make sure to talk with school counselors their sr year. And have a program that discusses this with students before graduation.

True enough. There is no shame in learning a trade, though some would say you should be ashamed to not be a lawyer or some such...

A skilled tradesman, such as a welder or carpenter, can make a more than respectable living. No college required...though some community colleges do offer trade training, though most, if not all, require other classes in order to graduate.

I disagree, it's not hard to find a job in Chicago, it's only hard if you're stupid and lazy. People think they should have high paying jobs with no experience. I live in Chicago and have my entire life, there is a progress to the jobs that are available. Anyone who can't find a job is stupid, lazy or criminal.

You do know this is about the idea of withholding diploma's as negative reinforcement? A punishment for kids who have done nothing wrong?

The controversial Chicago mayor has advanced a new proposal requiring all high school seniors who want to get a diploma to show that they have post-graduation plans by providing written proof that they have been accepted — not merely applied to — by a college, a gap-year program or the military. Proof of a job works too

Why do you think withholding a diploma from someone who earned it if they don't follow a path chosen by the government is a good thing? This has nothing to do with lazy or anything your talking about.

Talk about overstepping reasonable boundaries of authority. This idea is just ridiculous. Especially when you consider that many young people need a year or two to figure out what they want to do before comitting to a course of action. What this does is forces teenagers to make major life decisions before they have even had a chance to learn to drive or find out who they are as people. As high school diploma should never be conditional on anything but the successful completion of your state's required curriculum. What you do with your life and your high school diploma after that should be your choice, your business, and no one elses.

What the hell kind of fascist BS is this, anyway?

I wonder if a non-enlisted/non-college enrolled high school graduate that kicked him repeatedly in the jimmy would earn the respect to be granted a diploma? My consultation of the magic 8 ball revealed "All signs point to yes."

Let's deal with participation trophies first.
No more participation trophies.

The way rahm looks at it, these kids are great at killing people so why not push them in to the military?

I admit I don't remember the actual number but I recall somewhere between 20 - 30 percent of the kids in high school don't graduate anyway. In 2011 it was nearly 40%. He tried paying them to graduate and that didn't work. Now he is trying to scare them into graduating. This all stems from the idea that jobs are the answer to all of Chicago's problems not failed democrat policies. Democrats have run that city in to the ground and the idiots who live there continue to vote for the same losers over and over again. But in their defense, it is rigged against them. Check out the gerrymandering maps for Chicago. Its frightening that in a major city the corruption can be that obvious.

This is District 4, one of the worst, but not by much. This is ONE district...

I understand what the topic is about, and I don't think an earned diploma should be withheld. However I was addressing the jobs issue here in Chicago in regards to the statement you made about jobs not being available.

Disagree completely. The historical college education was a liberal arts education. Advanced fields like law school (which used to only take 1 year) or medical school (which took 2) were their own thing. Most fields trained you on the job.

College was never meant to be job training, and it shouldn't be treated like such. You're there to learn, not pay for something your employer should be teaching you.
