Yes and I bet it was current flow, through the Islands of West Antarctica, that probably kept them free of ice, then it cooled and that was
that...apparently the west is shedding ice and the east is gaining it, so if the warmer waters get between the islands again it might become ice free
for periods of the year, that's the area closest to South America so any signs of ancient life will most likely be found there.
