So, This may be a bit of fun but it is a topic that I think by the end of our lifetimes may well be asked seriously. Also feel free to delete if I have somehow stepped on any T AND C with this post...

We are living in a world that technologically is changing at a fast rate, A.I tech is starting to mirror actual Human behavior so it goes without saying since Sex and porn is one of the most searched material on the internet it will only be a matter of time before a Human like sex robot is released that is so life like that I believe that people may well begin to turn their backs to regular sexual encounters..

My thinking regarding this is around the changing wants that people have and the instant need for fulfillment, Everything now has to be instant, how many people get f#cked off if their internet takes a few extra seconds to load!!!.. Human behavior has changed in one generation and we are only about 20 years into a technological age.

Sexual behavior is also changing as it is now far more accepted to be sexually interested in any number of things.

So moving on, I started to think will we have a generation coming that will almost totally turn their back on sexual interaction with each other or at least will men have far more limited contact with women if a realistic quality sex robot was widely available?.

There was the Futurama episode that aired in 2001 "I dated a Robot" that touched on this subject that I believe was actually spot on in their assumption.

www.imdb.com...

I can obviously only look at this from a man's view point as that is what I am but there does seem to be a large number of men that are becoming disenfranchised with the thought of what a "regular" relationship will bring long term and looking at current marriage figures shows a drastic decline in the number of people getting hitched.

www.salon.com...

......

So that moves me onto my point of will the world population be reduced if a sex robot industry is produced that can market units that will full fill a humans physical sexual want plus more?, will Humans come to the point where they want sexual gratification regardless of how that comes and if a A.I unit is on tap why would people make a effort to go the "old fashioned route".

Sure people will say "Oh but I love the connection me and my partner have", that is fine but call me cynical, I believe that there is now and will be even more people in the future that simply want their sexual fix without all the long term effort that a regular relationship brings. Just look at the infidelity rate within marriage it is huge.

Infidelity Statistics Marriage Infidelity Statistics
Data Percent of married women who have strayed at least once during their married lives 14 %
Percentage of men and women who admit to having an affair with a co-worker 36 %
Percentage of men and women who admit to infidelity on business trips 35%

Imagine what would happen if you could have a custom sexual partner that could be customised to the purchasers every last want and even change with updates etc etc...

My time scale for this tech to be possible will be around 30-50 years, who knows what the world will look like but I do believe that it is a subject that we will be hearing more and more about and only time will tell if it turns into a epidemic of mechanical love.

Like I said this isn't meant to be a case study on the future of human sexual behavior but it is something that people on here may find interesting to think about. If world population control is a agenda?? then this could be a route that is used, the counter argument will no doubt be that it is the poorer countries in the world that are producing the most humans and these would be the least likely places to get such tech but as with anything who know what the future holds...

Universities are even discussing love droids and what they will bring to the table

God I hope.

I just hope the robots have lower standards than the humans or I'll have to wait for holodecks to program my own dates.

I am pro-sex industry in general so I support the technological expansion of it for several reasons (many of those reasons are actually beneficial to live, non-AI sex workers). But I don't think it will impact population. The cost and convenience of having "sex robots" would never be as cheap nor as convenient as common birth control.

In other words, if a person has difficulty procuring common birth control methods, they will be even less likely to have the resources for a sex robot.

Maybe they'll just go to the local rent-a-center and pick one up.

Cringe.

Well, if they can pitch and moan and make government responsible for their birth control....why not do the same number and demand that they have a "right" to such machines? Whodda thought, back when I was growing up, that a phone was something that one could demand and receive from government sources? The group that stands with its collective hand out for each and every desire will line up for the latest model I expect.

Don't really know if this will be the answer to your question or not but, I can't wait for sex bots

No more buying a bunch of drinks and not getting anything for it.
No more having to cuddle afterwards.
No more emotional baggage.
The list goes on and on...

I imagine those in the sex trade might not be too happy though. Talk about robots stealing jobs, sheesh.

There will always be an industry for living, sentient sex workers. A.I. sex-bots would simply make the job safer. Clients who are HIV positive (or other STIs) and have decent ethics would utilize them as well as violent disturbed men who might otherwise take their frustrations out on a non-A.I. worker.

In fact, I would guess that many services would use sex-bots for all first-time clientele to screen out the unsafe ones before allowing them access to live workers.

But bottom line, many people who hire sex-workers are looking for connection beyond just the physical act. Some are looking for specific talents or personality types that mesh with their own kinks. It's not so shallow of an industry that the professionals could be completely replaced by machinery.

What does that even mean?

Are you saying that empty realities can get pregnant?

How would the Rent-A-Center workers properly sterilize the robot for the next customer?
