I was reading something today that caused me to be curious about the overall consensus of ATS political junkies regarding Child Labor. Let's start off simple:

1) Do you believe that child labor laws violate the Constitution?

2) How do child labor laws violate the Constitution or how don't they?

3)If you think child labor laws violate the Constitution should we repeal them?

You should be the one quoting the spot in the constitiution that mentions child labor law...is this your homework assignment or part of your thesis?

Sadly have better things to do than answer this with the attention it deserves. Kinda wish you'd quoted and researched some of the applicable information we're supposed to be discussing. Is a lot to research.

Child labor laws are their to protect kids from situations like china.
Can't imagine a good reason to repeal them

I agree with this. But I've not the background to nitpick the laws as she's asking. I'm not a lawyer. I can argue emotionally and by opinion what I think about child labor laws. But not as it applies to the constitution.

I'm just opening a discussion.

Child labor laws are not mentioned in the Constitution what so ever, if they were there would be no discussion to be had.

Are you insinuating they violate the constitution?

If so I see some big money trying to do so in the future. I mean they have no morals or ethics.

I'm sure some will defend them too, as they defend any other atrocity they commit.

If successfully argued to be un-Constitutional should they be repealed?

There are some ways around the laws.
Amish for instance.
Farmers can have their own kids working but can't employ others.

I have also heard the horror stories from child actors like the little rascals.

If someone could prove that the laws violate the constitution then they would as a result be repealed. But "should" is a different story.
Laws are seldom just black or white.

SCOTUS already ruled that child labor laws are Constitutional but there are those that disagree with the ruling so I'm curious as to where people stand on the issue, if it ever becomes an issue again.

I'm for protecting child labor laws. In fact I don't think we have enough laws to protect the worker.

Who in the world disagrees with laws keeping ten year old kids from being forced to work ten hours a day?

And why are you withholding your opinion?
That is usually how a thread starts.

if obamacare is constitutional, I am pretty sure the child labor laws are..
and yes, I believe that the constitution gives the gov't the power to come up with and enforce child labor laws.

still have doubts about obamacare though.

Off topic? Maybe, but on point, certainly.

What's your angle? You always have one.

I suppose I could ask you if there are legitimate reasons why a child might want to be legitimately employed.
