CNN) — Donald Trump will call for eliminating the sequester on defense spending and bolstering the US' defenses by proposing a "major investment" in US military spending in a speech Wednesday morning, his campaign announced Tuesday.

A Trump campaign aide said in a call with reporters Tuesday night that the Republican presidential nominee will call for repealing the budget sequestration act that slashed defense spending and passing a new budget to rebuild what Trump has described as severely damaged and underprepared.

From a pure non-partisan perspective...What the hell is conservative about this?

The USA already spends 600B annually on Defense spending..3X as anyone else in the world..10x as much as Russia
China..200B
Saudi Arabia..87B
Russia...66B

I know there were a lot of conservatives that were not happy with Pres. GWB's spending spree..

And MANY conservatives have said that Trump's economic plans will lead to trade wars that will increase the deficet.

And on top of that...He is going to get rid of the sequester and do a "Major Investment" in military spending????

I ask again...what is Conservative about this?

The USA military doesn't need more money.

It already spends more than all the other major nations combined.

What it needs is to spend its money BETTER with more oversight.

Plus cutting down on military adventurism will save money.

But guess we wants the derp dep chicken hawk vote.

The US doesn't need to increase defence spending, merely move it around. The budget represents colossal waste, and the hijacking of US defence by private military industrial interests. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the US military, as it exists today, is for the benefit of the military contractors.

It's a real shame really because there are some unbelievably brave and talented men and women who serve in the US military, but also a lot of political hacks installed to be the mouthpieces of that Military-Industrial Complex.

For all the money in the world US military strength shrinks year after year.

obviously trump isnt your typical "conservative"

and obviously 660 billion on defense isnt true numbers ( black budget )

talk to anyone high up in the military. our military is weak right now. do we really need to spend more money on defense is the question. as a trump supporter...... i say no. i dont think we do. we can make cuts in certain spots and still improve the situation. a bigger military will just encourage countries like china and russia to make theirs bigger.
what we need is to work smarter, not harder. and not spend trillions on the development of a joint strike fighter that cant even beat an f-16 in a dog fight.
we need the future military to be here today.......

Military spending has to be increased! Our pilots are getting less training than normal, dying in the air when their jets fall apart from lack of maintenance and only half our fleet is in working condition because the military doesn't have enough money for the parts they need.

Russia and China are growing their military while ours becomes weaker.

A strong military saves money because it prevent war.

The reason trump is the Republican choice is that he is not a conservative.

And the military needs to have its duties reduced.
Leave the money where it is and give them less rolls to perform.

It doesn't matter if the military needs investment or otherwise, Trump is responding the the 88 retired generals who are part of his fan club, and it is they who insist money must be spent on the military.....

Money is not the problem.

The military has more than enough money.

The fact is it doesn't use the money it has wisely.

Shame some people do not understand how Defense Contractors rake in the big buck from our military spending and our actual troops suffer for lack of proper equipment to function.

To be realistic we do need to increase military spending, NOT Defense Contractor spending! I believe the Pentagon has contracts with many defense contractors that pay them for doing absolutely nothing other than to be available when they are needed. That is the kind of wasteful spending that needs addressed.

Our pilots are getting much MORE training than in the past and that is an issue.
Emerging technology is packing tons of data into the field of view in Heads-Up Displays and it distracts pilots from the immediate threats, limits their field of view and in some cases misleads them. That is a User-Interface issue that is solved by simulations and careful curating..not every new technology is useful enough where it needs to be shoved in front of a pilots face. That is not solved by increasing spending.

Let's just give the military all our tax dollars and they can trickle down what we need at their own discretion.

That doesn't have anything to do with the amount of spending. They are mis-managing those funds. If other country's military around the world are getting ahead of the US, considering this:

Then the problem is not the ammount of money, since you are outspending them 2 to 1. It's how you are using that money.

The pentagon lost 6.5 trillion over a 10 year period, so I guess they lost their entire 10 year budget lol. Somebody's not doing their job.

And this...That letter of 88 retired military officers endorsing Trump that he has been bragging up this week?

Maybe their support has something to do with the fact more than half of them sit on the boards of weapons manufacturers and others with Pentagon contracts.

He is calling for the end of limits on military spending (repeal sequester) and a "Major" Increase in military spending.

Trump is not specifying either "how" or "where" that major increased spending should occur...

Until the military (pentagon) is held accountable for all the trillions of dollars lost since right before 9/11 its nothing more than a money hole with crappy equipment. Our new airplanes are terrible!!

So we don't need to increase spending, just actually spend on the military and not the contractors.

This is one issue where I definitely disagree with Trump. If he wants to stop nation building and become more isolationist, why would we need to increase this spending.

As others have said here, it is not the amount of money that is the problem, it is how we spend it. This is exactly Trumps stance on education I think, its not that we need to spend more money on it, we just need to be smarter woth it, so why can't he see this with defense spending.

We do not need a military built on cold war principals. We should not have bases in over half the countries we have them in. We need a new military that can protect the homeland, and rapidly deal with small scale conflicts related to terrorism all over the world. We also clearly need to focus on cyber warfare, which is seems we are inept in. This does not require more money, only a changed in how we spend it.
