This story reeks more by the hour!

The FBI launched an investigation into Mateen after Sheriff's Office officials reported the incident to the agency. As part of its investigation, the FBI examined Mateen's travel history, phone records, acquaintances and even planted a confidential informant in the courthouse to "lure Omar into some kind of act and Omar did not bite," Mascara said. The FBI concluded Mateen was not a threat after that, Mascara said.

Sheriff Ken Mascara that is.

What about the second phone call describing the girl playing dead and the snipers?

Did she get carried away on a truck?

What was that phone call about and to who?

I think you wanted to post in another thread?

There are so many aspects/thread already here, it gets confusing.

Looks like it could offer insight into the question as to why the FBI was no longer interested in investigating him. As he apparently didn't live up to their test at the time.

Here's another article based off this news,

Before Omar Mateen Committed Mass Murder, The FBI Tried To 'Lure' Him Into A Terror Plot

Before Omar Mateen gunned down 49 patrons at the LGBTQ Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, the FBI attempted to induce his participation in a terror plot. Sheriff Ken Mascara of Florida’s St. Lucie County told the Vero Beach Press Journal that after Mateen threatened a courthouse deputy in 2013 by claiming he could order Al Qaeda operatives to kill his family, the FBI dispatched an informant to "lure Omar into some kind of act and Omar did not bite."

The article goes on to explain,

This is the technique the FBI has used to entrap scores of young, often mentally troubled Muslim men and send them to prison for as long as 25 years. As Aviva Stahl reported for AlterNet’s Grayzone Project, the FBI recently encouraged an apparently mentally disturbed recent convert to Islam named James Medina to bomb a South Florida synagogue and pledge allegiance to ISIS, a militant group he had no prior affiliation with. Now on trial for planning to commit an act of terror with a weapon of mass destruction, Medina is insisting through his lawyer that he is mentally ill.

Wow, they need to take that into account.

Could that possibly have been part of the push that sent him over the edge?

Yeah, they are going to say he didn't bite, but you know...

It may be argued that it's for the "greater good" to ensnare potentially dangerous individuals like Mateen.

Yes, that's the argument, and as always, it is a ridiculous one.

Many people go about not knowing, or even contemplating, the "other side" of disputed subjects. This leaves them at a rhetorical disadvantage, as when these points are presented for the very first time they are unprepared to counter them.

That's why I state these things, for the record.

More likely he was already there.

And this is the truly frightening part about self radicalized sleepers who have assimilated to the culture of America. They plan to act alone and they're virtually undetectable...hatred and jihad brewing beneath the surface where nobody can see it. And with this guy, even when he got noticed and reported he was keen enough not to trigger any further investigation / surveillance by federal authorities. This man was a terroristic chameleon with patience. He was an American born citizen...wife, kid, job, bills...everything we all deal with every day. But determined to carry out his plan regardless of anyone or anything.

Aye, maybe this was the terror plot the FBI lured him into, but something went wrong. Maybe Omar Mateen mixed up the dates, he wasn't supposed to hit the club until the next day, or some such thing, when they would have caught him in the act, and shown how effective the FBI is in protecting the public etc..

The exact same thing happened over in Norway, where mass shooter Ander's Brevik carries out a bombing and then shooting on an island. The thing is, the Norway Police had a drill for exactly the same scenario, and were there waiting for him on time, but Brevik had an unexpected delay in transportation, so arrived late. The police figured out he wasn't coming anymore and left the scene. So, when Brevik arrived the cops had already gone through their drill and left, leaving the scene wide open for Brevik's shooting spree, and we know the rest.

So maybe the time and date got mixed up here too. These drills, rehersals, and real-life play acting role playing games got to stop. Things can go wrong.
