Space Laser Gun Thingy

Wouldn't it be cool if our country had this giant laser orbiting the earth that would gather energy from the sun and when we want to destroy a country we just activate it and it blows it up with the laser?!?!?! just a thought

Have you researched this? Does the government have any programs supporting this idea? Or is this just an idea you had?
