Actually, man's abstract rules and laws have crushed, curtailed, and destroyed our natural rights (which man DID NOT create).
Life, liberty, and the right of ownership over the fruits of your own labors predate any and every convention of human created law. That's why they are considered inalienable, granted upon mankind by the Creator, and really the only true rights all are born with.

Sadly, in modern society (speaking US-centric here) they are largely at the whim of the assholes in DC.
-Anyone can be conscripted into service and sent to their death
-Anyone can have their livelyhood crushed, freedom taken, voice silenced, etc and while having it done to you wrongly *may* result in eventual compensatory awards and reparations, the fact is that in the moment in question, the state was a destroyer and enemy of those rights.
-The state can and does take your property, your money, your time, your hobbies, your choices, your blood, your sweat, your tears, your children, hell even your own damn body after death in special circumstances at their whim, with or without the writ of actual laws, when they want and at whatever magnitude they want.

Ownership of virtually anything is an illusion so long as we live under the shadow of the slathering, rabid beast this government has become. Everything else is simply rented. Except my middle fingers and my ass, all 3 of which frequently point eastward in hopes of being seen by the overlords, I really own nothing.

If you really dig into it, the amazing thing is that the same inner city America now crying that the penal system unfairly targets them and is racist was the same inner city whose leaders, supposedly then the chosen voices of the inner city, called for this war in the 60s and 70s. Those leaders said that drugs were leading to big escalations in violent crime and they begged DC to prioritize not just treatment of addiction and targeting large scale suppliers, but to start looking at laws with teeth to coerce/scare the average inner city user away from drugs altogether.

Of course that gets buried today. But it is a fact that it was cries from Harlem leaders which lead to wide support for Nelson Rockefeller's drug laws.

The trait is that Trump supporters are super cool, diverse and don't like Fox news telling them to vote for Cruz or Rubio.

I agree with the OP. And while Trump is much too authoritarian for my taste, I somewhat unfortunately tentatively back him.

Why?

Sanders will cost me at least an extra 5000 a year on my very moderate salary should his policies ve implemented, and he will continue to push pc insanity.
Clinton is a life long criminal of the grandest sort with countless deaths on her hands, and is and has been a long time cia tool.
Cruz is a religious zealot. Im ok with religion. I dont like what I see of it from him. He seems duplicitous all the time.
Rubio is classic neocon establishment. The same guys, that behind the scenes work witb establishment folks such as Clinton to bring you, things like the iraq war and libya.

That leaves the questionable Trump, who may jist be playing a character. My gut says his actual positions are centrist authoritarian. Not my preference, but considering the rest of,the candidates, an anti establishment question, mark, that is a bit of an ass seems the lesser of the evils.

Can I have the Cruz economic policy with the Sanders foreign policy and the anti pc strength of Trump?

Blacks are the most authoritarian group, so will they vote Trump?

The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal.

If people actually thought like this, there would be more sociopathic behavior instead of compassion; and slavery and second class citizens for minority races, women, and homosexuals would still exist.

There would be inequality and a pyramid hierarchy where the majority of humanity suffers while a few people stay at the top as elitists/masters.

Unfortunately, the lack of Equality/fairness/compassion is influencing this to happen through the very people who fear the new world order and dictatorship.

Trump seems to want to deported all Muslims. Tat would be a step backward from equality and freedom of religion.

As for forcing Mexico to build a wall , that is also authoritarian.

This is not about "Republicans vs. Democrats" but whether the trait of Trump supporters support being authoritarian and that does seems to be true based on what Trump himself says.

IQ is the trait that predicts Lefties. Just smart enough to remember the propaganda and just dumb enough to believe that power will always love you.

"they threw you over the rails 30 years ago"

But they were herding you over to the rail for the 100 years before that.

I believe you misread. It sounded like he wanted equal opportunity, not forced equal in outcomes.

... and socialism, per se, is not synonymous with either authoritarian or -ism.

Does socialism allow individual freedom? Are you free to do as you wish with your own life and property without hurting others?

Do you want to borrow my card? I recently used it to get into one of those places that had a sign that said, 'No shoes, no shirt, no shorts, no service'.

I firmly believe that the one trait common to the vast majority of Trump supporters is an utter disgust with the politics as usual scene.

I agree 100%

Democratic Socialism does, yes. They aren't trying to re-invent the "wheel" America...we want to restore America back to a Republic, not an oligarchy...the "not hurting others" is the compass we need to use when making decisions about the future of this Country. If you believe "It's business, it's not personal" is an acceptable reason for Big business to screw the majority....then Sander's is not your guy.

I’ve found a single statistically significant variable predicts whether a voter supports Trump—and it’s not race, income or education levels: It’s authoritarianism.

authoritarians obey. They rally to and follow strong leaders. And they respond aggressively to outsiders, especially when they feel threatened.

this also describes a pack of wild dogs. Seriously though, chimpanzee communities function like this. Its very interesting to actually be able to see some of our more primitive behavioral traits still displayed so prominently in some of us.

How about responding to the findings of the thread?

We all know the old arguments about left and right, but does it not alarm you that the trend is for right wingers to be authoritarian to a greater degree than their left wing counterparts?

Its BULLS*IT.......
