Moscow plans to suspend military cooperation with Ankara after the downing of a Russian bomber by Turkish air forces, Russian General Staff representatives said on Tuesday. Further measures to beef up Russian air base security in Syria will also be taken.
Three steps as announced by top brass:

1. Each and every strike groups’ operation is to be carried out under the guise of fighter jets

2. Air defense to be boosted with the deployment of Moskva guided missile cruiser off Latakia coast with an aim to destroy any target that may pose danger

3. Military contacts with Turkey to be suspended

Oh my, this is probably the closest scenario we can get to a world war 3. I feared this very scenario when the first warning come out from Turkey, about Russian Intrusion of Turkish airspace.

All can be said is that the damage has been done, and now Russia has opted to increase security of is air campaigns by deploying one of it's largest military cruisers, ordered to destroy any target posing danger. Which I think is what any country would have done in this kind of scenario.

I have read the thread on the breaking news - here and I suppose, the tensions are high in this high stakes combat against ISIS. I only hope that situation does not escalate any further than this, but I have doubts that it will remain at this.

Everyone was wondering how Russia would handle this situation, and it looks like we got the answer. Things are getting very heated in Syria, and I think Turkey should be very cautious about what actions they take going forward.

So if Turkey play nice and stay on their side of the border and leave Russian aircraft alone then all will be fine?
If Turkey make incursions into Syrian airspace they will been seen as hostile and be attacked by Russia or if Turkish aircraft move to intercept russian aircraft they will be seen as hostile and attacked by Russia?
So Turkey has the choice to back right down or engage in hostilities with Russia leaving Nato to decide whether they start WW3 or abandon Turkey?

Agreed SpaDe_, but I think they will not wait for any more attacks from Turkey but have ordered the Moskva guided missile cruiser to destroy any targets posing danger. Not my words there...

Pretty much telling Turkey if you can shoot at Russian jets only seen as "posing threat" than expect no lesser response from us (Russians).

We just might be seeing the pawns set to strike at each other...

I read somewhere, that Dimitri said Russia is not threatening Turkey with military consequences. So, I don't think we need to worry much yet. Russia has stated prior, that they have "missile" systems that will destroy anything that poses a threat, but once it happened ... they downplay it. So it appears they are playing this with a calm, level head ...

Perhpas, the Russians are only cutting of military communications as they don't want to "tip" off where their strikes are heading.

General Wesley Clark just admitted Turkey is aiding and supporting ISIS, while discussing these events on CNN.

General Clark is a democrat BTW, for those who might dismiss him as a conservative anti-islam warhawk.

Turkey will taste hell for all that its doing and has done.

The real devil in all of this one day will be commonly understood as Recep Tayyip Erdogan; the corrupt tyrant of Turkey who for some strange reasons the MSM gives him a pass...of course I’m being facetious he is given a pass because of the MSM is totally under control of the US secret government.

He gambled on supporting murderous and savage jihadists including ISIS all just to overthrow Assad so his country could get a pipeline through it.

So this wretched tyrant has assisted in the killing of almost 300,000 human beings in Syria in order to fulfill his geopolitical schemes

This--Caliph want to be--will soon bring hell and destruction on his own country, Turkey, when ISIS turns against him and he will have enemies in every quarter: The Kurds, ISIS, Syria, Iran and now Russia.

Now the US supports his dirty deeds of treachery because it’s in line with their own covert black operations in the ME, but soon Obama will have no choice but to abandon him

He is the George Bush of Turkey

It’s unfortunate for the fine and proud Turkish people, who like the stupid people in America, elected Bush twice and now Obama, they have brought hell on themselves by electing Erdogan.

Karma awaits him

I only hope his people will be spared

Note sure if you read the Russian State Sponsored news article from the OP where it says:

I think that should pretty much answer your queries, and it shouldn't be taken lightly either.

Things are seriously escalating...regardless of how much the media, 'officials' and others are trying to downplay this situation. After all, this is the first time since the 50's that a nato nation has shot down a russian plane. Welcome back to the 50's everyone!

Turkeys leadership would love to get the rest of NATO in a fight. so while in the middle of that they can recreate the ottoman empire. I suspect that if russia shoots down a turkish aircraft the russian cruiser will get sank in response IF its shot down in turkist territory 13 miles in. the airspace of syria is .5 miles away then.

Well, Turkey have the full right to try this again. But now its not like Turkey havent been warned about what Russia will do.

The gloves are off.

Turkey could have saved them selves from a lot of problems if they had just let the SU go. No harm would have happened. Instead they go for this solution against a superpower.

For all the whining by Turkey about the Russian aircraft violating it's airspace, it seems they frequently do the same thing.

wakeupfromyourslumber.com...

A short-term border violation can never be a pretext for an attack” were the words he chose at the time, words that will no doubt come back to haunt him. As can be seen from the above infographic, Turkey has violated the airspace of Greece no fewer than 2244 times in 2014. That’s over 6 times a day!

The Russian violated our airspace many times and we the Danish and the UK escort them politely out of our airspace. If we shot down every Russian bomber any time Russia was invading our airspace we would have had WWIII just behind us right now.

But to actually shoot down like Turkey did is just foolish..

This is symbolic and in military terms changes noting. The problem for Russia is it need the Turks badly for trade. Since Turkey is not part of the EU/US sanctions it has to keep Turkey buying wheat, gas and oil. It also needs Turkey for its joint pipelines. Russia's options with Turkey are severely limited. They can not afford a fight with the Turks both because even alone the Turkish active military is almost as large as Russia's but, also because Turkey could cause tons of internal troubles with Russia Muslim populations. So Russia will make a public show and in the end do nothing of note.

I don't want to play the Russian roulette over that line for sure..

I think they will intensify their flights in that region , and if they get the chance to lure one f16 out , they will settle the score..

I am sure more than one NATO heavy weight told Turkey not to do that again or they were on their own. Turkey thinks if they are attacked by Russia that will force their Arab brothers to unite with them. Turkeys leaders have called for a united Caliphate to invade and destroy Israel way back in May.

This attack was to drive a wedge between NATO and Russia but more so against France cause they know France and Russia are giving their ISIS thugs a heavy beating.

At this point, as 0bserver1 stated, it is pretty much a game of "Russian roulette". It be stupid for Turkey to rub salt over the wound it created.

I don't think they actually violate your borders though do they? They fly into your area's of interest to probe your reaction times just like they do with ours (UK) - I know this is such a tiny difference in that part of the world, I mean they are talking down to a few hundred meters realistically and in a jet aeroplane! But the UK would have to shoot them down if they continued on into our actual airspace.

Exactly, never underestimate Putin. Those F-16s will get a huge surprise when a few SU-30SM fighters jump them and make them shat their drawers. The super flankers are there and I bet those pilots are itching for a fight right now.

i wonder what this means for the joint nuclear reactor project the russians and turks were working on? if putin prefers to act with out using his military i guess they could attempt to shut off gas imports to the turks but that may econmically backfire on russia as the turks seem to be a major importer of russian natural gas
