Dear members and friends.

This is a copy of a thread that I have posted on another site.

[snip]

This is a personal message and public apology to all who may have been affected yesterday by the stupid and irresponsable acts of one of my sons so called "friends".

The story :

My 16 year old son is currently squatting my office for a couple of days as we are decorating his bedroom and my office is the only place where he can have his game console.

Whilst I was away from my office yesterday for a couple of hours to visit a client, my son and his so called « friends » had access to my computers.

One of his friends who thinks he is is quite tech savvy when it comes to computers decided that it would be fun to visit all of my favourites and open windows with the excuse that he was just surfing the net and watching YT videos.

What my son was not aware of however (he was playing on his console), was the fact that his so called « friend » was visting some of the forums for which I am either a member or a moderator and causing havoc by trolling in either French or English.

So far I have had feedback from one member from another forum explaining that that particular members website has been visited and a comment was left and also 2 other members for a French forum that I moderate saying that they have also had weird troll comments left.

If I had not received a PM from that member on the other site concerning this issue and explaining that my IP adress had been identified I would have probably not been aware of what had happened (I also had to explain to the French members of the other forum too).

Needless to say that yesterday I managed to repair any damage that was done on the French side and called the parents of said friend to explain the situation… His mother went absolutely ape#, so I would not be surprised if said « friend » loses his access to his mobile phone and computer for the Summer holidays as well as being grounded (Not to mention that he is also banned from ever coming to our home again).

I was absolutely livid to say the least…

This also meant that I had to spend all yesterday evening checking even through all my professional mails to make sure that nothing had been fiddled with… Fortunately this was not the case.

Anyways, this is a personal message to all of you here on this forum to ask you all kindly to check for any strange messages that you may have in either French or English on your personal blogs, PMs etc…

I have checked all outgoing messages and posts so far on my account and touch wood up... until now cannot find anything, but would be extremely grateful for your feedback.

A sincere and very deep apology goes out to any member or friend who may have been affected and a U2U would be kindly appreciated if you have been affected.

Moral of the story is that I have learned a lesson to never leave my computer unattended and switched on… even at home.

Kindest respects

Nibbles

It's worse when that happens on YouTube and they delete all your videos.
Time heals all.

Just as well that I don't have a YT account...

This one is going to take a little time to heal as the pill is hard to swallow right now...

My poor son is devastaed that one of his so called friends could do such an act.

At least you caught it and it didn't get you banned here. That's actually something I get nervous about: Somebody using my account to create havoc. I'm glad everything's password protected.

Thanks for your input.

The thing is Skid, that even if you have a password and have asked your computer to remember it, anyone who is a little tech savvy can have access.

Thus one of the other reasons that I now no longer ask my computer to remember passwords and am having to change all passwords to all my accounts in the next couple of days.

The kid got onto all 3 of my computers... A blumming 15 year old... And I thought I was security wise?

That Invite I will have you know Flam was and still is a very deep, sincere and extremely profound one...

You can U2U me in order to let me know if one day you will be over in France...

The only thing that I ask is that you bring good humour, no drama and at least something that we over here in France will appreciate on our tastebuds.... (That means anything that you moves and can be edible).

I hear you there,
"Spare the rod, spoil the child".

Yet you can't be careful these days.
I know of a kid who , after his parents
opened a can of WhoopAss, got right
on his nifty little IPhone and called
the cops on them.

What a fiasco that was.

Stay Well,

One of my daughter's friends (6 yo) put soap in in my daughter's drink as a prank. My daughter noticed and came to me. I confronted the girl and at first she denied it, but then admitted it after I told her I wasn't mad and she wasn't in trouble. Then we all had a nice discussion about the difference between 'fun' pranks and harmful pranks. Needless to say tampering with someone's food/drink is definitely not 'fun'.

Kids just don't know better. And yes, 14/15 yo is still just a kid. They may look adult, but their brains aren't that much more developed than a 6 yo.

Once you've cooled down you should have a discussion with the little turd and explain why what he did was so wrong. Not an angry, accusatory discussion....try to get him to be empathetic. Who knows, maybe the next time he's tempted to pull some idiotic stunt he may actually stop and think twice.

Just my opinion!

PS It could have been sooooo much worse than a couple of troll comments. What if he had uploaded child porn or something? Or made some serious terroristic threat? Imagine the poop in your pants when the authorities come knocking down your door for something like that!

Sounds like a swift kick up the arse would have helped... but then again?

We (especially his parents) had a "discussion" with him...

He is grounded for quite a long time and will not be setting his fingers upon a keyboard for at least 6 months...

6 months without electronic "heaven" is enough for nowaday know it all teenagers...

Luckily for him and his family this did not happen....

However, the authorities over here in France don't tend to get too much involved in "one off" so to speak episodes on the internet... UNLESS... of course keywords are used in a certain "adult" pattern...
