I agree. What I want is a balance between protection and freedom. Having said that, the discussion should be about how much protection vs. how much freedom. And in my opinion, the government is often overprotective. Put your motorcycle helmet on for what? Because Big Brother says so. And there is one thing where I probably disagree with most Libertarians: everybody in America gets to eat, whether they work or not.

Riding a motorcycle on public roads makes you a risk to everyone else on that public road. Same with seat belts.

I hate seat belts BTW. But, losing control of my car is not about me - - its about everyone on the road.

It's just another attempt to control and idiot-proof your life. We'll never get the #1 law that would make everybody safer: banning cigarettes.

I was against banning cigarettes in public places, until - - I was in public places with no cigarette smoke.

We live in a society. Its about the Whole - - not the individual.

I've noticed we never agree on anything. America was founded on the principal of individual freedom. We have strayed very far from the one thing that made America great. I do not want to be part of your Borg Collective.

I agree that the punishments are often way overboard for the crime, but I disagree that people don't need protection from discrimination. The difference between us, is you argue for blanketly allowing people to discriminate on the very things people require simply to live and make their way in this society. If there's one place and only one place where discrimination should not be tolerated it is the work place.

Either that, or big business can start paying for ALL of welfare themselves rather than expecting the working taxpayers to do it since they want to be able to both discriminate against their workers throwing them on the street willy nilly, while complaining that some of the taxes they pay go towards people not working.

If they really want the right to discriminate against people, I'll gladly take a paycheck not to work so they can have that privilege. But I will never support their right to fire people for reasons completely outside the persons control.

If work performance is better than a single other persons on the job, if they've missed less days than a single other person on the job, if they've done less damage to the company than any single other person on the job, if they've not been caught stealing or doing other crimes against the company, if they haven't been belligerent, if they haven't engaged in sexual harassment or any of the many other clear nono's. Then you had better damn well fire every single other person with a worse record than them before putting them on the cutting block.

This is people's livelihood, if they do right by you, I don't care whether you like them as a person or not, you do not fire them, unless it's layoffs and you fire every other person with a worse record first. What they do in their free time is not the employers business unless it results in reducing work performance or putting others in danger on the job. And even then, people who have a worse record should be cut first.

This is untrue. America was founded on the principal of freedom in general. That means that a good balance of individual and group freedom needs to be obtained.

After all, why should you as an individual be free to dump poisons into the waterways when that effects everyone? There's a reason such activities are illegal.

Yes, yes. Every group is to have their quota except for SWMs. It's not the principle that's wrong, just the BS effects. We have a bunch of bureaucrats with nothing to do except to hunt for a problem that's really rare. These kind of laws are relics from a by-gone era which no longer exists. Libertarian is for freedom. It is also for same sex marriage.. in case you didn't know. I AM voting Libertarian this time, because I think we need freedom in this country..we are having our rights taken away little by little, by both republicans AND democrats.. I am finished with both parties.

And quite frankly Annie, anything you vote for, I am against... Most of us here in America like our freedom, and don't feel as if we or our children, friends and neighbors should be OWNED by the government. We simply don't have your mindset..

Documents from the time indicate that the design of the U.S. government was at least partially inspired by native tribal society. Interesting! I'm happy something from The Native Americans way of life still lives on in something as important as The Constitution. I had no clue many of the democratic principles were inspired by The Iroquois.

Interesting what you come up with when you "Dig a Little Deeper" - - instead of just accepting the same rhetoric over and over.
