Well, they are pure fantasy, I can tell you that. But once upon a time they were seen as 'real'.
The first known crop circles were said to be caused by 'demons', when in reality it was most likely an angry neighbor farmer or worker burning
someone else crops and it burned in a circular pattern.
In modern fantasy tho when I think of a demon I think of the Warcraft universe, I grew up with those games, and in World of Warcraft, the burning
legion is basically all demons hell bent on chaos and total universal domination for the torment their leader had to go through.
They are controlled by certain over lords and powerful beings, so the majority of them are merely minions.
But the warcraft lore goes a lot deeper and broad than that, it goes into the realm of Diablo franchise, and deep into it's creators heritage which
is basically Persian.
It's an alternative to the typical 'demon' you'd expect, but keeps a lot of the same aspects that they are based of mischief or total control of
something or someone.
