Interesting read from Tass this especially about what Russians earn per month , it was on the news today about minimum wage earner's in the U.K being among the 10 best payed employees in the world [ wtf ]

itar-tass.com...

80% of Russians are ready to give up Western foodstuffs for the sake of strengthening the state, according to an all-Russian poll presented by the Sociology Institute of Russia's Academy of Sciences on Wednesday.

64% of those polled agreed to giving up Western manufactured goods, 55% said they could do without tourist and business trips to the United States and Europe .

Meanwhile, 37% of the respondents said they were ready to give up the Internet and social networks.

The poorest 10% of Russian citizens have a monthly income of less than 5,000 rubles per person ($74 at the current exchange rate) while the rich earn 43,500 rubles ($643), excluding the top 3-5% of the most wealthy people who ignore polling, the researchers said.

As many as 36% of Russians assessed their life as good and only 5% admitted it was bad , i wonder how that would go in other countries

And today the Bear growled at the west after the threat of the SWIFT ban on the banking sector

Russian PM vows ‘unrestricted’ response if banned from SWIFT payment system

rt.com...

the cover of the Economist mag maybe the numbers at Cinders feet are a warning to bug out to the 1% which we are hearing in the press

The more you push them, the more resilient they get, not only in politics but also in defiance against the economic warfare brought up upon them...so it`s going to fail as long as the politicians make the right decisions to not aggravate the situation too much.

They have had a few decades to try the Western system and I think found it did not live up to their expectations.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Russians are extremely patriotic and the current crap regarding sanctions will not push them to change their Government, it will push them to defend Mother Russia against an aggressor.

They are a hardy people and have proved this so many times.

It may just come down to BRICS vs The West and many in the West may just change sides as Greece is moving towards right now.

Russia is not Moscow. Go to any "russkoe derevnia" (russian willage) and you go back in time to the 19-th sentury. They are not ready to give up Western foodstuffs, they simply don't know what that is. It is the same to say that 99.999% of North Koreans are ready to give up Facebook.

Where is the overarching ethics committee that should be there overseeing any international decisions of such magnitude from self imposed 'world rulers' /'deciders of the economies of other nations'?

It looks like the leaders in the western world want to destroy the petrodollar and the Euro based trade just when things were starting to turn a corner

China will be lol out loud and waiting in the wings to be the new ruler of the world when the brown stuff hits the fan

Healthier Russians then.

They should be channelling their economy into self sufficiency. Poly tunnels in every town and super productive farming.

Things sure are heating up in the world of global tensions, perhaps the atomic clock had a heads up on the Greece /SWIFT developments.

The pipelines that were to be built and ship orders were going to Europe but now will be completed in Russia by local firms who were just given emergency funding .

I remember a story a few years ago where every Russian was given a parcel of land for growing their own veg maybe they saw this coming

I truly hope for the sake of world peace and independence that they become self sufficient.

I hope that also for all nations as the global marketplace has resulted in unfair monopolies and economic strategies that defies the logic of the potential for each nation.

If UK supermarkets for example, were to sell 80% UK origin produce, there would be improved economy for UK business and improved self sufficiency.

If they also had specifications on ingredients, the nation would also save billions on the NHS, for example banning fizzy drinks and promoting non standard shaped veg at reduced prices.

Greece is doing better after 5 years of their austerity program.
When a countries currency collapses the only alternative is to give up expensive imported goods.
Local prices at Russian farm stands are still relatively low, in fact Russian goods may be priced so low that it stimulates their export trade numbers. It would take a lot of chickpeas to make up for the lost oil revenue though.

I love foodstuffs, but I would give foodstuffs up for a cause.

But...

Meanwhile, 37% of the respondents said they were ready to give up the Internet and social networks.

Why on Earth would that make anything any better for them?
