Instead I prefer to think of these people as evil. Sick. Ungodly, or just plain crazy.

I tend to think of those who direct and command those people as evil. The one's who act as footsoldiers and explosive pawns, i tend to think of as malleable, gullible idiots.

I do suspect though, that a high proportion of these 'suicide bombers' may actually be victims themselves.

Imagine a scenario where you have been taken aside by one of the evil, egotistical power crazed commanders and told that you are going to carry a bomb to a target and explode it, blowing the target(s) and yourself to charred, fleshy fragments.

And what if you were then told that if you refuse to carry this suicide bombing out as ordered, they also have kidnapped your entire family, including your infant children, who will all be anally raped repeatedly with barbed wire wound baseball bats for weeks perhaps months on end, and if that didn't kill them, they would be murdered in such a horrific way, that the barbed wire anal rape would seem like a pleasant memory...on the other hand, if you did as instructed your family will be taken care of financially and will be treated as the family of a 'hero'..

What would poor, uneducated and fairly simple people do? What would most people do regardless of social and education status do?

It's possible this has happened, and while there's no evidence in cases of individual acts of terrorism that's been carried out, it is possible this happens quite a lot.

I can understand wanting to brand them as "Cowards"

But they are not, they do not fear even death itself, they are a enemy with no fear.

They attack and kill civilians but look at what we went though in Iraq and Afghanistan, these guys have no problems walking up to highly defended military compounds and attacking them as well.

Sure we can call a attack against civilians "cowardly", but if we are talking about the guys in France they then also decided to have a go at French Special Forces in that printing plant.

I think when we start to all them cowards we underestimate them.

but that is just my opinion on the matter.

The percentage of Germans that were Nazis is far larger than the number of Muslims that are extremist.

Try some simple math. Lets say for argument's sake that 10-15% of all Muslims are extremists/fundamentalists. How many people is that if there are 1.6 billion Muslims?

You don't know much about Islam. Do you know what the difference is between an "extremist/fundamentalist" Muslim and your average "peace loving" moderate Muslim? A difference of eschatology. One side believes war with the world and infidels is necessary to hasten the return of the Mahdi and the other side believes the killing of the infidels isn't supposed to happen until the Mahdi comes first, then the bloodbath will start. They don't disagree with the practice of it, only the timing.

I picked a very conservative number just for argument's sake. (I said that specifically above) Just to show that even with a VERY conservative estimate the number would far exceed the number of Germans in the 1940s.

I don't think it's possible to get an accurate census. Generally for any religion the number of fundamentalists is less than 20%. It's generally a small number.

Fair enough I can go with that, I imagine those in the weest would be a lower percentage though.

If anyone is interested this research is quite suprising. It is statistics for muslim countries with indepth polls regarding to attitudes towards fundamentalism and violence.

There is no explicit reference to the Mahdi in the Qu'ran. You can say the same thing about Christian fundamentalist who keep screaming for war because they think it will speed the return of Jesus.

Did I use the word "Quran"? No I did not. Muslims also follow the Hadiths. And I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm a Christian and never heard that called for in any pulpit in my life. Jesus Himself said there will be wars and rumors of wars but don't be afraid or worried.
