YOU HEARD IT RIGHT!! Candied bacon! Sometimes I cook this and serve it with plain ice cream believe it or not. It's much better than it sounds. Sometimes I just cook it and eat it while I'm alone... like my feelings. Only this tastes a lot better.

Please bear with me as I have never posted a recipe here before. If anything needs clarification, I will try to explain anything you might want to know. I think I put everything in, but we all know how that goes. If any of you decide to use this, I would love to know what you thought about it.

I use -

1 pound of regular bacon. I prefer Hormel Black Label, but you can use any kind you prefer.

1 tablespoon of spicy brown mustard. I've used horseradish as well. Mustard is better IMO.

1/2 cup Dark Brown Sugar... Store brand works just as good for me. Save a buck.

Cayenne Pepper to your taste. A lot or a little. It varies for me depending on what, if anything I eat with this.

2 teaspoons Apple Cider Vinegar

Again... All of the above ingredients can have store brands substituted without having a negative affect on the outcome of this recipe IMO. Of course YMMV.

Now... What to do?

Start off by preheating your oven to 350 degrees.

Line a baking tray with foil and put a cooling rack on top.

Mix all of your ingredients above in a small bowl. Put half of what you have mixed together in a shallow baking dish, and keep the other half for later.

Take your bacon and lay each piece in your shallow dish generously coating each side. Remove them from the mixture and place them on the rack you have already placed in your baking tray.

When your rack is full, place it in the oven (center rack) and let it cook.

Around 15 minutes in start basting your bacon with your (clean) leftover mixture. Do this about every 5 minutes until your bacon is done and crispy.

Depending on how thickly cut your bacon is, this could be between 25 and 35 minutes.

Let your bacon cool before removing it from the rack, but don't wait to long or your bacon will stick to the rack itself.

**********Be sure to use the mixture that you DID NOT put your raw bacon into to baste your bacon while it is cooking. Use the mixture you sat aside. If you cross contaminate, your delicious dessert may induce a trip to the ER for food poisoning or parasites.

Enjoy!!!

I have used this in ice cream and I have also used it by crumbling it up into summer salads. You can pair it with almost anything because we all know that bacon makes everything better!!!

You're welcome!

I have tried chocolate covered bacon and it should be a sin. I was making fudge last Christmas and it struck me to try and stick some cooked bacon into it while it was in it's last stage of cooking. I had added nuts to the mixture, so the bacon was covered in fudge and tiny pieces of walnuts. Believe it or not... The walnuts set to off. It was mouth watering good. The family kept telling me how sick I was until they tried a piece.

They didn't really deserve it after that but what can you do?

I think your family was in shock of the awesome factor and 'disgusting' was the only word they could muster in their weakened state. Surely they meant to say that they would be 'disgustedly appreciative to try some'. Keep up the bacon life style Kang.

My stomach just flipped. I don't think I even want to try this. It could be more addicting than heroin. I'll stick to eating two or three pieces with eggs or french toast at breakfast or having it on a BLT.

Oh come on... You have to live sometimes!!! Just do it. You know you want to do it. Just once... no commitment.

You may need to go to a rehab center. I think you are a candied bacon junky. The DTs probably won't last for more than six weeks so you should be out in time for thanksgiving to make it for dinner..

You KNOW how Michelle is about foods that taste good.... There's no way in hades that Obamacare is going to cover rehab for candied bacon addictions. It'll be off to the FEMA camps for me.

That reminds me of a Bullshot. Beef broth, vodka, salt and pepper.

OP: Before vegetarianism I'd be allover that!

I had to give you a S&F just for the shock value!

I haven't developed a taste for candied or chocolate meat yet, and at my age I probably won't. About as crazy as I can get is a peanut butter sandwich loaded with lots of pickled jalapeno's. Or my favorite comfort food since I was a kid....

! banana
1 small bag of potato chips
2 or 3 chocolate covered maraschino cherries
1/2 cup of beer

Guaranteed to fix whatever is wrong with the world.

Thanks!

I can understand that thought process. I would have in no way thought that this would taste good. My mind does not automatically compute dessert meat lol. But it works. Pretty darned good to boot.

Your concoction sounds good as well. I always paired beer with chocolate when I drank but never thought about the cherries or banana. If I ever treat myself to another beer, I'll give it a go!

Don't they have vegan bacon? ...well it tastes like bacon , but is not meat....I bet you could use that and cover it with chocolate!
And use it in your bloody Mary's!

If you try it, don't forget the chips; it just doesn't work without the salt factor!
I miss Little Olys; that's about all I could handle.

I like chocolate with hot peppers, so maybe a bacon wrapped Habenero dipped in chocolate would be to my liking...hmm....

Ya know I have had a hankering for something sweet lately.

I just may try this. I'm off to the store tomorrow for a few things, and I was planning to get bacon for another recipe.

BLT salad.

I'll let ya know what the troops think.

Be well

Thanks kangaroo
Love bacon! I sometimes sprinkle a bit of brown sugar on it when frying. Or drizzle pure maple syrup. Cheap here in Canada, I put mustard on my bread for a bacon sandwich.

I want bacon now!!! If I had some in I'd honestly jump out of bed and make some!

OMG wow. Sounds yummy!!!

Where I live we have an Angel and Phelps chocolatier shop. I know they have been there for as long as I've lived here. I had my first taste of chocolate covered bacon and OMG it was so good I had to give the rest of the bag away so I wouldn't eat it all!!
