I thought it would be fun, if not interesting, to compile some of our more compelling sightings that are reported to the likes of MUFON! I mean who are better? There are so many incidences reported, they don't know what to do with them. So...

The meaning behind this thread is to compile a list of sightings that are reported to MUFON found at their website, or by searching their archives of reported sightings. Naturally, the most interesting of these would be those that contain pictures, recorded videos or illustrations. But you are of course allowed to use any external source you'd like as long as you provide the source.

Why? Well, instead of rehashing old encounters, stories or being dependant on new or old users telling of their observations (all of these are very valuable indeed), we can instead report sightings made by others to richen our own collective database.

The best threads on ATS are those that live their own life (albeit, not straying from the path), and continually growing in both discussion and new aspects. And I thought that a thread such as this must have some merit considering. I will post some of my selections and you are free to comment or post your own.

It might be considered very ambitious, but I believe that this will either prove to be a small but solid database for sightings or UFO encounters that are not that easily explained, or a complete debacle. At least I hope there will be something to be gained from this.

I hope this thread will provide a newfound vitality to this forum, and a new ground for discussion and lively debate that considers both ATS' Terms and Conditions, as well as proper decorum and etiquette.

Use this site to search for reported incidents (remember you can search by several parameters or use any other source).

To end the introduction, just remember this thread about what you can elliminate as potential UFO's.

Here are my two first contributions (these are actually quite recent):

Colwyn Bay, Great Britain
Date submitted: 16 of august, 2014

Whilst out walking on the beach at Llanddulas at a approx 7am I had stopped to watch some sea birds diving down into the water about 30 metres off the shoreline. As I watched a weird solid structure appeared in the sky above them to the North and moved slowly towards the beach. I thought at first it was a balloon but it was very solid and metal looking. I quickly grabbed my mobile phone and took a picture of it as it turned left and moved in an Easterly direction. It looked like it had a pair of dipped wings or something hanging down from it on each side, but it was also a bit pointed at the front. It made a slight humming sound and it had white and blue lights that seemed to glow or pulsate. As it turned to the East they changed to a yellow colour. I would say that I watched it for approx 90 seconds and as it move down the coastline I did seem to change shape slightly. It then just disappeared about a mile away from my position on the beach. There were a couple on the beach who may have saw this too because they walked behind me as I was watching it. I think they were foreign though because they were quite tanned and spoke to each other with an accent so I didn't say anything to them. I am familiar with aircraft and this was 100% no helicopter or fixed wing craft! and certainly no weather balloon because this was moving in a controlled manner.

Newquay, Great Britain
Date submitted: 08 of august, 2014.

Short description: Like a mist above the event campsite next to RAF St Mawgan.

I had to post it as a thumbnail as the picture was so large.

The object was not seen until the pictures were observed, it was only visible in one picture which were taken within a couple of seconds.

Oh that is definitely a UFO in that picture. And I mean not one of ours. That looks like someone watched Star Trek and saw the shuttles but morphed it.

That is a weird looking UFO, not sure if I'm buying it. Just that thing and the blue sky, seems like that might be a pretty simple photoshop.

I'll occasionally check MUFON and another site for UFO reports near where I live. It's kind of interesting to check out what fellow Californians are seeing in the sky.

Thank you very much! I will have a look at it

Jennyfrenzy: Assuming you're referring to the first sighting, I agree that there is something suspicious about it. It is unusually detailed for a UFO picture, and there's something inherently suspicious about that. But it seems plausible quality wise that it could've be taken from a mobile phone.

Also, there does seem to be some irregularities between the picture and the following statement made by the witness. There doesn't seem to be any blue lights, and the object doesn't seem to be "a bit pointed at the front". Unfortunately this is the only picture submitted, so the discrepancies could of course be due to the fact that we only have a single angle to go on.

It doesn't look like any drone I've ever seen, and I can honestly say that if it's a real object, I haven't a clue as to what it is.

Translated from spanish:

While in La Villa de Mazo near the Mirador Las Toscas (La Palma) by photographs of stars and night landscapes, I saw a mountain ± a, forest hill with two flashlights like those worn on the front walk or run which at night. Clear lights. © They wanted two people I thought that made Futing. Segua taking pictures and when I wanted to see where were coming "those people" but saw they were flying very slowly, very slowly and steady horizontal line, one in front of the other. I was aware if I could detach algún noise was heard but not once did nada.Una photos before I leave out of sight. Did not want to go on that site more Where I was was far from lumÃnica contamination. I made some pictures in a hurry and these two are best left. Were taken with Nikon D80 Chamber. These values were submitted photos: 70mm / F4.5/ 10 seg/ ISO 400

ETA: I had problems checking the exif data on these pictures before I posted them. But now as this is resolved, I can now see that these pictures have probably been tampered with using Adobe Photosop. I would consider these pictures as highly suspect, if not a hoax. Of course, there could be other reasons for processing the images in AP, but on this subject... I wouldn't trust them.

Osasco, Brazil
Date observed: 27th of june 2010, 3:00PM

In the last Saturday I made many the photographs of an not identified flying object, in the street in front of my house, I I observed approximately per 20 minutes, then I caught my camera, a Sony DSC-H7 with zoom 15x ótico, but I needed to use zoom ótico agreed with zoom digital, resulting in 76x of zoom. The naked eyes, the object is white, and makes a random pulse, but in the photos the color is gray brilliant. I really do not know what he is this, and am made use to discover what he is.

Source: MUFON

I've checked the EXIF data on these pictures, and I can't find that they've been tampered with. It's also been captured with the camera the observer mentioned in his account.

I seem to remember having seen something similar on these boards before, but I can't say for certain.

Poros Island, Greece
Date observed: 22nd of july 2014, 8:45 PM

Sighting report:

Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at 8:45 PM, a UFO photographed on the island of Poros, escorts a passenger plane. The incident captured with the camera of UFO researcher Harris Koutsiaftis which at that time was from the southwest side of the main city. The two objects (where flying at high altitude) was shining, thanks to the reflection of the sun on them. Available in 30-40 seconds remained visible in the visual field of the researcher. Those seconds the unknown object was moving parallel to the plane, then began to overtake them and in the ends flies in front of the nose of the airplane at a greater distance, until it lost both skyline . At the time of the photographs, dozens of people around began to realize what was happening and looked up in the sky observing and commenting on the paradox of the case. Analyzing the incident Harris, said the identity of shiny objects: "There is no known conventional military aircraft to fly with such speed, to reflect sunlight and it not after exhaust! So we talk, or an alien flying saucer, or a secret human aircraft, there escort the plane after the incessant crashes occurring in the last days." In a further statement, Harris, excluded also the case of a reflection of a plane in icy cloud crystals, not only because of July and the clear skies of that evening, but also because the strange glow was not after the Sun but between him and the object. More, for the strange passage through the next issue of Greek UFO magazine named "ET" and the September issue of Greek "Phenomena".

Source: MUFON

The two pictures has been taken approximately 1 minute and 09 seconds apart, as shown from the EXIF data:
Picture nr. 1: Original Date/Time = 2014:07:22 08:37:45
Picture nr. 2: Original Date/Time = 2014:07:22 08:38:54

They have also been processed in Adobe Photoshop 7.0, but I'm inclined to blame that on the photographer wanting to enhance the object in reference to the original photograph, not due to dishonest tampering. I suspect it may be another plane of which we can't spot the contrail, but it seems its trajectory is awefully dangerous as it looks like they're crossing each others' paths.

Hard to tell as both the trajectory as well as the altitude plays a part here. It would be interesting to hear other viewpoints on this.

Droogie, here's an interesting one from March 4th, 1988 where separately located witnesses (including U.S. Coastguards) reported seeing a huge, gunmetal gray football-shaped object over Lake Erie - the object was said to be 'landing' on the lake and was reported to have released 5 or 6 bright yellow triangular objects which 'darted around independently'.

US Coastguard report - UFOs over Lake Erie.

One of the witnesses who viewed the object(s) through his telescope did have the presence of mind to take some photographs and the images are now said to be in the possession of MUFON (who have never released them for some reason).
Cheers.

MUFON... I'm pretty sure only people that are into UFO's know about MUFON and to report their sightings to them. This alone leads me to believe there is some bias to the organization.

If I had never come on ATS, I would have never heard of MUFON or known that it is a place to report sightings. Just imagine all the people that see a UFO but never report it. Or, for example, imagine the people that do know about MUFON and want so badly to see a UFO that they send in a report over something that is just an airplane at night because they "want" it to be a UFO.

MM, I don't know about people wanting to see Unidentified Flying Objects but I think most of the folks who are submitting these reports come from quite normal backgrounds and are genuinely baffled as to what they've seen (same with the USO subject).

Also, if you actually type in 'Report UFO' on Google then MUFON is the second hit so I suppose people find out the organisation from there (or from word at mouth from friends or at work).

The first hit is NUFORC and if you've not heard their archives then they're well worth a listen on a rainy day.

In this remarkable collection you won't find gaggles of stuffy scientists postulating what UFOs are or are not. Instead, refreshingly, here are folks from every walk of life reporting their UFO experiences in disturbing detail, sometimes right after they occur, and sometimes as they happen in real-time-witnesses in denial or scared out of their wits, or people who simply seek an explanation following the most bizarre event their lives will ever know.

Cheers.

That is a fascinating story! Thank for sharing it in this thread

I have to agree with Dolan, this is a very well documented sighting it seems. It also sounds like Dolan must've been given access to the pictures as he refers to them in his summary. Curious as to why MUFON decided to withold them...

a reply to: MystikMushroom

As I've perused the MUFON database quite alot these past weeks, I can say that there are a host of intentionally faked pictures. Misidentification is an honest mistake, but there are also alot of BS. The main focus has been on sighting reports that has attached pictures/video. I believe that of all the reports in this "category", you will seldom actually see or read something interesting.

a reply to: Arbitrageur

Arbitrageur... Excellent! That was a relief. This had actually been gnawing at me ever since I posted it. Thank you!

Also, I appreciate the link!

While the MUFON historical case files are a great resource, serious researchers have run into mysterious roadblocks gaining accesss to them.

"There are a significant number of MUFON case files still not available to researchers, and no one in the higher ranks of MUFON seems to be able to give researchers an answer as to why."
