Okay, so I've been reading a new book called "100 Questions You Never Thought to Ask and Didn't Want the Answers To".

I came to the question on who the Antichrist really is and thought it might blow a few theories. After all, if AC is a Bible guy, the bible should answer who he is, and it turns out it does.

Most people continue to try and figure out who the Anti Christ/beast is by matching the names of world leaders to the Greek letter system to see if they add up to 666. Many people’s names will do that. None of them are the Anti Christ.

So lets deduce who this refers to. First, the word “anti” in Greek does not mean against, rather counterfeit. A counterfeit Jesus. In The Revelation of John, Jesus is described as thus in Ch 1:

13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
and...
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

For a human to be a counterfeit of this, could be quite difficult, so where might we find a good candidate.
Lets begin with the words of the man who would best know his counterfeit...Jesus, or Yeshua in Hebrew:

37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

There is a following description of how people are caught unaware by the flood, but if we are to take these words as spoken, we must understand the big picture of that time. Just before the flood, the world was ruled by a group of malak or angels that had set themselves up as false gods. The worst of these is blamed for the utter desolation of mankind

Looking to the book of Enoch, we find these words:

- And Azazel taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates...

- Thou seest what Azazel hath done, who hath taught all unrighteousness on earth and revealed the eternal secrets which were (preserved) in heaven, which men were striving to learn

- And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azazel: to him ascribe all sin.

- And again the Lord said to Raphael: Bind Azazel hand and foot, and cast him into the darkness: and make an opening in the desert, which is in Dudael, and cast him therein. And place upon him rough and jagged rocks, and cover him with darkness, and let him abide there for ever, and cover his face that he may not see light. And on the day of the great judgement he shall be cast into the fire.
Was he forgotten? No. But they have hidden his name so you won’t know.

Lev 16 (his name is replaced where they substituted the word scapegoat)
8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for Azazel.
9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord’s lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.
10 But the goat, on which the lot fell to be for Azazel, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go toward Azazel into the wilderness.

Why?

During the year, the sins of the ancient Israelites were daily transferred through the regular sin offerings. Every year, on the Hebrew Day of Atonement, the High Priest of Israel first sacrificed a bull as a sin offering for his sins. He then took two goats to the door of the tabernacle to deal with all of the combined sin of the nation of Israel. Two goats were chosen by lot: one to be “The Lord’s Goat”, and the other to be for “Azazel” which would be driven out into the wilderness. The High Priest confessed the sins of the Israelites to Yahweh and placed them on the head of the goat for Azazel, who moved them into the wilderness where all the sin would be ascribed to Azazel.
Creator still saw the plight of mankind, their present state as being directly tied to the past actions of Azazel. So much so, that each year, the blame for the present actions of Israel was transferred to Azazel on an ongoing basis.
Remember Creator’s words in Enoch:
And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azazel: to him ascribe all sin.

Now from the Revelation of John:
And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the abyss, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the abyss, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

In the book of Enoch, Azazel, the fallen angel was contained in the abyss until the end when he would be cast into the fire. He is an abomination who caused the desolation of the Earth. He was the head of the Earth, is not and will be again.

This is why no one can make war with the beast and win, because he’s not human. Remember that angels in the bible are described both as angels and also men, depending on whether or not they are transfigured. So the idea that he is called a man does not change this.
This is why many of the Earth will follow him, because he and those angels which support him shall give the appearance of the god the Earth has waited for.

still not convinced?

For those of you looking for a New Testament entry instead:

II Peter 2:4 For if God did not spare sinning angels, but delivered them to chains of darkness thrust down into Tartarus having been kept to judgment.

II THESSALONIANS 2:6 And you now know the thing [the Abyss] that is holding back [Abaddon], that he may be revealed at the proper time.
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only the thing [the Abyss] which now restrains [Abaddon] will continue to do so until out of the midst [of the Abyss] he comes. (literal)

The Greek word translated “restraining” here is katechon. According to Friberg’s Analytical Lexicon to the Greek New Testament, this verb means “hold back, detain, prevent . . . figuratively restrain, check.”
The phrase “only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way” in the latter half of verse 7 implies that the one restraining the “man of sin” is a person. However, the Greek text here literally reads “only the thing holding back now will continue until out of the midst he comes.

So let's hear some thought on this.

My fist thought....is that the particular segments you chose is an excellent example of how religeous texts have a common thread.

The majority believing in a one God with various entourage.

Once you see the stream the river is not far, and all that.

As far as the anti-Christ resebling and seeming the teacher is a must from the bibles perpective. Its near judgement day and the seperating of the chaff from the wheat...being numbered and all that. The signs apparently are the hint how to get of jail free etc if you find yourself in the last days.

I might mention most the signs are not met at this time...according to that book anyway.

Cheers to ya

Oh yeah the .man holding back...my thinking is the Job reference. ..

Like asking how long a place devoid of good people will last...not long...and like a thief in the night I ponder.

In Aion, Carl Jung shows that the character of Christianity and the character of Pisces match. Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite directions. Christ is the first fish, and the anti-Christ is the second fish. They are brothers, twins.

Early in the age of Pisces, the first fish was dominant in the sky. Then later, as the paradigm of science rose, the second fish gained dominance. At the end of the age thesis and antithesis with unite in synthesis, and the age of Aquarius will be born.

Perhaps this 'Azazel' character is responsible for science. But I doubt it. It was written in the stars by God.

God does not put riddles in the Bible.

If he wanted you to know who it was he would have told you, apparently he does not want you to know because he doesn't mention a name.

Now if you think you are somehow smarter than God and are able to piece together something he doesn't want you to know, well I think you may be in for a shock.

Yes he does.

That is not referring to Gods Word in the Bible. He specifically wrote what he wanted people to hear, he did not intend for people to have to figure out what the Bible means.

Look at this logically. Why would God put clues in the Bible for people to figure out who the anti-Christ is?

His purpose for having John discuss it at all is simply so people will be aware of what is coming and to document the chain of events leading up to the end times. The actual identity of the anti-Christ is irrelevant to Gods plan so why would he share that with us?

To separate the contemplatives (mystics) from the actives (orthodox believers). Mary from Martha.

There are two currents of theology in the Bible. Exoteric and esoteric. God weaves them brilliantly... not only in the Bible but throughout world religion and myth. It's uncanny.

Baby food and adult food are both in world religion and myth... to each according to his measure.

I think someone is missing what I wrote. The name Azazel was not hidden in the Hebrew. It was hidden by those who translated from there and changed it to scapegoat.

The translators hid it. No studied Jew has any problem knowing it is Azazels' goat and all sin is ascribed to him.

I recently read a book where the protagonist comes to an understanding that frightens her due to how it reflects on her relationship with present day foes. She is psychically forced into a vision regarding Lucifer, which teaches her the secret of Lucifer's fall. In order to fight the angels before he was cast down, Lucifer had to rely more and more on the sole source of his strength, which was the very thing he was fighting against: God. Essentially, in his quest to destroy God, he was also intent upon destroying himself. And this secret is the reason he remains in hell, too horrified and prideful to relent, to admit to anyone this truth.

That's how the story went, anyway. And in a way, it's a beautiful tale. But I think what completes it is jumping to another story I read a while ago, where the Master of Creative Magic and the Master of Corruptive Magic confront each other. And the Master of Creative Magic realizes that he is in the Corruptive Master, and the Corruptive Master is also in him. And that's when he embraces the Corruptive Master, absorbing him and completing the cycle in himself. For without the candle, the darkness is another shade of nothing. And without the darkness, the candle is the same. They define each other, they give each other direction, and in destroying each other, they destroy their own meaning.

According to the book of Watchers, Azazel taught man the art of war.

I have a similar view. You cannot cast shadows without light and you cannot have light without creating shadows as long as their exists something other then light. If god is light then he/she is bound to cast some shadows after creating anything. You can have a room full of light but if there is anythign else in that room there will be a shadow.

Yes, that is reflected in Hinduism, in that Brahma the creator, Vishnu the maintainer, and Shiva the destroyer are aspects of the same Being.

Or, they weren't being nearly as clever and vague as you're making out, and they made a not-so-subtle reference to their contemporary oppressor who came this close to wiping out Christianity in its infancy, Nero/Neron (666, 613).

Outside of the New Testament, other Hebrew or Christian writers also made references to Nero as the antichrist, such as the Sibylline Oracles, which were 1st century AD Jewish and Christian apocalyptic verses.

"One who has fifty as an initial [the Hebrew letter "N"] will be commander, a terrible snake [the serpent or dragon], breathing out grievous war....But even when he disappears he will be destructive. Then he will return declaring himself equal to God" (V.28ff). - Oracle V, 1st C. AD

[Nero] "that man of sin [lawlessness]...who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God...shewing himself that he is God" - II Thessalonians, II.3-4

A Christian poet named Commodian (2nd century AD) claims Nero as the antichrist:

"Then, doubtless, the world shall be finished when he shall appear. He himself shall divide the globe into three ruling powers, when, moreover, Nero shall be raised up from hell, Elias shall first come to seal the beloved ones; at which things the region of Africa and the northern nation, the whole earth on all sides, for seven years shall tremble. But Elias shall occupy the half of the time, Nero shall occupy half. Then the whore Babylon, being reduced to ashes, its embers shall thence advance to Jerusalem; and the Latin conqueror shall then say, I am Christ, whom ye always pray to; and, indeed, the original ones who were deceived combine to praise him. He does many wonders, since his is the false prophet" (Instructiones, XLI).

A Christian writer named Sulpicius Severus wrote of Nero in the 4th C. AD, as Nero had by then become a demonic force, who had often been predicted as returning or being resurrected;

As he was the first to persecute the Christians, so perhaps he will be the last; many believe that he will come before the Antichrist. Too, given that his body never was found, there are doubts whether Nero committed suicide. Even if he did kill himself with a sword, it was believed that the wound had healed and that he will recover, as foretold in Revelation, and return at the end of the world to work the mystery of iniquity (Chronica, II.28-29)

Nero had such a grip on Rome that after his suicide Roman astrologers had predicted Nero's resurrection in the East, and Nero became associated with the 'end times,' the eschatological writings and beliefs of both Rome and Christianity.

In the 1st C. AD Martyrdom and Ascension of Isaiah a pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament, Isaiah prophesies the end of the world, when Beliar (Belial) the Antichrist will manifest himself as the incarnation of the dead Nero.
