New California bill lets authorities temporarily remove guns in some cases

On Wednesday, in response to the Isla Vista shootings, a new bill was introduced in the California legislature that would give families, neighbors, friends and law enforcement the ability to appeal to a judge to temporarily remove firearms while a court determines a person’s competency.

This is a joke right ?....

State Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley), who introduced Assembly Bill 1014, said it would function like a temporary restraining order, providing people who were the subject of the court action with due process rights to make their case to keep their firearms. If they did not prevail, they could also appeal to the court to have them returned at a later date, after the court deems the person to no longer be a threat to themselves or to others.

Nope! Guess not ! .......

The bill would not give the court or authorities the ability to remove other weapons, like knives, which were used by Rodger to kill his two roommates as well as a college friend who was visiting the two young men.

“This is a common sense tool that could be used by a family member, a roommate or a concerned friend who saw clear warning signals that a person was a clear threat of violence to themselves or others,” Skinner said in an interview.

So basically you can file "gun retraining orders " on anyone you might suspect of not being fit have one ?

In closing :

I am both discussed and speechless ..
Why do I feel like law makers play off of tragedy ?

How can one not wonder if these shootings are a conspiracy when bills like this are being passed?

I don't ever make predictions but I will now !

California will be gun free in two flicks of a badgers tail!

Sad really . . ...

Humbly

all this effort to take guns. there must be a reason why.

that reason is the govt is afraid people may use them one day on a mass scale. that in itself is an admission of the putrid corruption run amok.

if the cops in calif take guns it will never be temporary. they will melt them down after 180 days.

most police departments in calif do not return stolen guns they melt them.

that is unless you are a cop with a unregistered handgun.

In response to the Isla Vista shootings?

Half of the victims were STABBED TO DEATH.

What will they do in response to the Isla Vista mass stabbing?

Never let a good crisis go to waste!

I have it on good authority that Nancy Pelosi's body guards are acting nutty.

Please remove their firearms until they can be thoroughly evaluated for mental competency.

That was the first thing that popped into my head actually..... Need an easy victim, point them out to the authorities, they will disarm your potential victim temporarily enough to make them defenseless to become an actual victim. What an absolute joke. But "ITS FOR THE CHILDRENS!"

Property rights? What are those?

I live in CA, I could tell you tales.

I got left on the side of a mountain road at night with my tool box one time. They pulled me over for driving an old truck. I was in the middle of scrapping a bunch of stuff for a company in the valley. When they ran my license it was two weeks expired, so they towed my truck, easy as you please.

I couldn't afford the tow and storage to get it back, it was worth less than the total fees. I lost the job I had because I couldn't haul or even get to the job. Then I had to go to court to get my license back.

It was one of those things where you have a license so long you forget to check the expire date… silly me, what a crime.

Does the law apply to "everyone?" You might want to test this on a few psychotic cops. But if you do, make sure you get all of them in one or two days to make sure they can't change the law to give themselves immunity.

Just a thought LOL

Cheers - Dave

You need to work on your math skills. There were 19 victims, three of them were stabbed, 11 were shot and the rest were hit by the perpetrators car.

As for the topic in the OP, it sounds like a great bill. I hope it passes. The sooner the better.

I'm sure this is going to get twisted around to make it that everyone loses their guns except of course...the ones running the government there. Maybe everyone should take out restraining orders against the people who vote this in and the ones pushing for it. Keep these type of busybodies away from your house....they are a threat to your personal rights.

I know the law could be a good thing, but it has to be triggered by a parent or close friend, not by someone who is an enemy. The criminals will be filing charges so they can disarm who they are going to rob.

if this infringement on the 2nd amendment passes, let us hope that you, and others like you, have this law used against them.
you are obviously not of sound mind, in my opinion, mr. socialist.

You need to work on your reading comprehension skills.

You missed the "TO DEATH" part of my statement.

Half of the victims killed were in fact stabbed.

Wild west ? Nah dude. ...

They have already taken away most of our gun rights ..

The last one to go was our right to "open carry" .

Sorry your wrong , unless you can prove our gun rights are protected..

Good luck
