Therein lies the problem...how can these people then expect to be taken seriously? Aliens are their 'first" suspects? I think the more likely scenario (given their location close to the "Signs" movie reference), is that someone started making a crop design as a hoax, and then abondoned it (got scared off, got tired, etc.)

Well, the movie signs gives people something to worry about (which they don't need to be). Now people are probably going to try making crop circles as jokes more often I bet... Movies ruin everything.
