A university lecturer is claiming to have photographed fairies flying through the air in the British countryside.
John Hyatt, 53, says his series of photos which were taken over the past two years prove the tiny winged creatures do exist in the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire.
Mr Hyatt, Director of Manchester Institute for Research and Innovation in Art and Design (MIRIAD) at Manchester Metropolitan University insists his photos are genuine and have not been altered in any way.

Those are cool shots and one could entertain the idea of them being fairies. I kind of think ATS will narrow them down to insects but I'll just let the fantasy live and visit this thread no more.

So freakin cool!

S&F

Even if this turns out to be fake it's still trippy and cool. Super realistic looking.

I'm looking forward to seeing the results of our communties scrutiny.

My guess is that they'll primarily be called Mosquitos....but I see the humanoid bodies.

I'm sure there's many logical explanations - but I rather like the idea of Fairies caught on film.

At a glance they look like small mayflies. Probably just hatched.

I wish whatever is in the background was more visible. It would be fun, maybe, unless they were evil...

That is what they reminded me of too!

However, they do look like fairies as well......
Or what I would imagine them to look like.

I wonder how many I have squished thinking they were bugs....lol

Heys to the op!

Given the month that this article was released (April) and being from Lancashire myself I could boldly claim no such creatures have existed in these parts for thousands of years

On a serious note: May flies hatch at this time and if this guy likes his spring photography, or his "2 years of research" rather, then this is what he has captured.

May flies/midges come in various sizes and tend to zip around in the air in close crazy swarms like this, often with their legs tailing behind them as they are quite fast. It is this in combination with what looks like a morning sun and the over-exposure of their wings that gives this "fairy-like" effect.

Interesting thread and a bold claim by the photographer. University lecturer or not..

Morale of the story? ..one shouldn't make claims until a specimen is captured and analysed.

Watch the void.

Gnats?

That's what the fairies want you to believe. That's how they stay safe and secret....
